It was announced Wednesday that Hilton will only have to serve 23 days at the Century Regional Detention Center in Lynwood as opposed to her original 45-day sentence. There was a lot of speculation in the past day or two that Hilton would get off even easier than that and serve mere hours in jail due to inmate overcrowding. Los Angeles County Sheriff’s spokesman Steve Whitmore shot that theory down when he announced Wednesday, "The Sheriff’s Department is announcing that Ms. Hilton will do a minimum of 23 days in jail. The possibility that she will be processed in and out in a day is over. She will do her full time, minus 22 days because of a state jail policy encouraging good inmate behavior."

Hilton will spend that time in a "special needs housing unit" away from the general inmate population. The unit contains 12 two-person cells and is reserved for high profile inmates including celebrities, public officials, and police officers. According to reports, she will be treated as a regular inmate and will be allowed an hour each day outside of her cell. During this time she will be allowed to shower, talk on the phone, watch TV, or enjoy outdoor recreation.

Hilton was arrested in September and plead guilty to lesser charges of alcohol related reckless driving. She was placed on probation for 36 months. In February, she was pulled over for speeding and driving with her lights off. She was found to be driving on a suspended license and was cited her for the misdemeanor violation. She was found guilty of a probation violation and handed her sentence. Hilton’s lawyers then filed a notice of appeal, but it was announced Thursday that she has dropped her appeal and is ready to serve her time in jail. Hilton is expected to turn herself in by June 5.
