Paris - Chapter 5
"Alright already, we get it Bella, the dream was really vivid and you really did think I was gone! Enough!" I exclaimed.
"Hey, I was right about Disneyland back at the infirmary, and I saved the day back at the park, I have the right." She shot back. "And don't call me Bella, you know I hate it, it makes me feel self-centered."
"Bella, Bella, Bella, Bella!" Percy exclaimed.
"Zip it or I'll zip it for you." Annabella challenged.
Percy went back to his pancakes and Xavier high-fived Annabella.
"It's either Annabella, Annie, Anne, Anna or..." She said.
"Avril." Xavier and I finished.
"Alright, April-" Percy said.
"You're just askin' for a headlock."
"Hey, Avril means April in French. And no, I'm not askin' for it, I'm begging for it, who's gonna give it to me?"
"Me!" Annabella got up and ran for Percy, but he got up and ran, they chased each other all around the restaurant and even gathered some cheers in French.
"Attraper le garçon! Attraper le garçon!" The onlookers shouted.
Xavier took a bite out of Percy's pancakes.
"I love free food." He said with a look on his face that said, 'I'm in heaven!'
"I thought you said it you liked spicy food."
"You're just jealous!" He shot back.
"Of what?!" And for extra measure I took an even bigger bite out of Annabella's English muffin.
"See." I said devouring the stolen portion of muffin.
"Now, that they're gone, you can help me figure out-"
"OW, OW, OW!" Percy shrieked as Annabella finally gave him his much deserved headlock.
"Guys get back here!" I shouted over Percy's cries of agony, Annabella's victory cry and the applause of the restaurant.
After the commotion finally ended and the rest of the group finally sat back down. Xavier took a very old-looking piece of parchment from his pocket and read aloud the clue we found the day before.
"Before The Grande Dame."
We all groaned.
"Well that's crystal clear." Percy said.
"Um, it kinda is." I pointed out.
"What the heck is The Grande Dame?" Annie asked.
"It's the Eiffel Tower's nickname." I said.
"How did you know." Xavier asked.
"Some of us actually listen to Madame Élise, remember that day when Zendaya bet you that you couldn't get that wad of gum of the celling so you spent the entire French class shooting pencils when the teacher was giving you her back.
"I remember that!" Both Annabella and Xavier said.
"That was the day I fell asleep in class." Annie admitted.
"And the day when Zendaya had her haircut into very choppy pieces because of the gum and celling bits stuck in her hair." Xavier said with a smile.
"Anyway," Percy started. "We need to figure this out."
"Well," I said. "It says before The Great Dame, and what does that mean?"
"I dunno, the area before it maybe?" Annabella said.
"I don't think so, all there is in front of it is just a filed." I said. "Maybe, it means section B4 of the tower?"
"I don't think it has sections." Xavier remarked.
"Maybe it's an anagram." Percy said with a shrug.
"How, if it really is an anagram, they don't form even 1 full word." Xavier pointed out. Annabella grabbed the piece of parchment.
"The Grande Dame." She repeated. She got a pen from her pocket and started scribbling on a napkin.
"Heed Grand Meta." She announced after 10 minutes.
"What?" The rest of us said in unison. She shrugged.
"All I understand is Grand." She admitted.
"Well, I understand Meta as well." Percy said. We all turned to him.
"It's one of the Latin ways to say Pyramid."
"Ok, so far we have Grand Dame and I understand what heed means, pay attention to." Xavier concluded.
"Pay attention to the Grand Pyramid." I put in. "Of course, they meant what was built before the Eiffel Tower, although a lot of things were built before it, The Pyramids of Giza were the most memorable structure before it."
We all high-fived, this was the largest step we had taken so far.
"Wait a second, are we gonna have to get a ride to Egypt?" Xavier asked.
Annabella whacked him in the head the menu.
"No you idiot! There's a pyramid here in Paris, the main entrance to the Louver."
"Ooooh, right, Forgot about that."
"Ya think." We all said.
************************************************
The cab ride to the Louver took about 10 minutes and instead of Percy scaring the driver to letting them ride for free, Annabella paid with the money she had just conjured up. "Free money! I could get used to this." She said giddy.
"Why is this place so empty?" I said as I got out of the cab.
"Pourquoi est-il si vide?" I asked the cabbie.
"Son fermé le mardi." He said.
"Merci."
The Louver Pyramid soared 70 feet above us, it glinted from the sunlight.
"So, where do we look first?" Xavier said clapping his hands.
"How are you not awestruck by this thing?!" Annabella asked.
"I've seen it a million times!" He protested.
"Still." I said.
"Ok, so we have to pay attention to it but where, it's enormous." Xavier said.
We all shrugged. I walked around the pyramid for a while, while Percy tried scaling it, Annabella looked for a spell and Xavier just sat on his useless but.
Just as I was about to give up, a glint in the fountain caught my eye, I looked at the fountain. Nothing, just coins thrown in to make wishes. Still, it seemed rather odd that no matter where I moved that glint still shone. I walked toward the shining light, it was a prism the size of a fingernail. What was a prism doing in a fountain? I wondered.
"Taco Girl, you lean forward anymore you're gonna fall in." Xavier joked.
"For the 34th time. Kim dared me to do it and I can't say no to a dare." I said jumping into the fountain.
"Emma!" Annabella shouted. "If anyone sees you, you're dead. What are you even doing?"
"Hold on!" I yelled, picking up the prism and getting out of the fountain.
"Annie, give me that list." I said not even waiting for a response, and taking it.
"There's a burping spell?" I asked.
Annie burped in response. I rolled my eyes and went back to the list.
"Annie, cast this spell on me, I said pointing to a spell that would make me fly.
"Kay." She said, getting use to me asking weird stuff out of the blue.
"Qruinitses!"
I hovered 2 feet above the floor then 12 then 22 and then before I knew it, I was eye to eye with the pointy tip of the Louver's entrance. I heard Annabella mutter another spell which I had seen on the list, it was supposes to make someone invisible, and then I became the color of the air, drifting to where no one could see me except for Annabella because the spell didn't effect the caster.
I floated a little above the tip of the pyramid, and looked very closely at it.
Just as I suspected. I thought. There was an extremely tiny space cut from the top of the pyramid. Just the right size for the prism. I thought smugly.
I place the tiny prism into place and floated back to the ground right in front of Percy, Annabella snapped her fingers and I appeared suddenly in front of him, he yelped and I laughed out loud.
"Hey, I was right about Disneyland back at the infirmary, and I saved the day back at the park, I have the right." She shot back. "And don't call me Bella, you know I hate it, it makes me feel self-centered."
