Parenting and Stress
Parenting is a complete experience. Just as we work hard to get the best outfit for our child’s fancy dress, there are millions of things to do on a daily basis. From phonics to playing a game of scrabble we want to do our best. Parenting automatically builds a lot of stress though we never admit the same. The joy and appreciation we get from our children is the biggest achievement for us but we can surely do a lot to lower our stress quotient.
Yardsticks are not required to emulate a particular aspect while parenting. All of us vary from being indulgent parents to being strict as per the situation. We keep oscillating as per the requirement and a lot of stress is hence a by product. The biggest trick is to maintain a time management schedule. Working parents need to squeeze in time to attend their children’s homework and supervise their nutrition. The concept of ‘me-time’ is the only thing all of us can resort to while effectively being good parents.
Growing children require a lot of time and attention. Most parents feel the lack of sleep is the biggest problem and this is the root cause of fatigue. De-stressing through a fifteen minute power nap is the best way to beat the stress arising from lack of sleep. Parents have to cultivate the knack of remaining calm despite all odds. In case the child is not willing to let go of the tantrum procedure, then take a walk and work on a different approach. Something will surely work out but we need to figure out the best solution.
It is also noted that in our bid to finish household chores faster we tend to do things all by ourselves. Kids love to help and as per their age we can assign them jobs. Ask them to clear the clutter from the bedroom or just arrange the cushions.
Tell them to locate a sponge and clean up the wooden furniture. This way they feel important and your praises mean a lot to them. Freeing the mind can also be looked by joining a library, having a relaxed weekend and also catching up with our old friends.
