Paper Shredder Oil

Once you read this article, you will realize how buying the right paper shredder oil saves all the gumming and burning of the shredder machines. Keep reading further to believe this fact.
Finally being a bit thoughtful to maintain a décor in your work environment, you decided to buy a paper shredder to regularly clean out the mess around your desk. Rather shred the mess to a flyspeck! Good decision. But aren't you forgetting one thing, be it a new or an old machine, as the clichéd idiom goes, every squeaky wheel needs oiling. Similarly the need for paper shredder oiling is going to be highlighted in this article. A general complaint of consumers purchasing this machine is the overpriced oil for the machines. Now you might think, such lubricants are easier to possess just by merely visiting a Walmart or any departmental store. So the pinch of the cost wouldn't affect you much. Hate to say it, but you are wrong. Why spend any money on any other plain oil other than an oil suited for a paper shredder even though they earn an authentic name. The reason being, this oil doesn't formulate a residue on the cutters during its process. Other plain and common lubricating oils do leave a residue on the cutters.

Some Facts About Paper Shredder Oil

When you use a substitute to oil a paper shredder, that oil attracts unwanted papers, ink stains, rubs and sticks dust present on the documents, files, etc., and eventually and pathetically clogs the machine's cutting head. All I am saying is, it's recommended not to use an alternative. Rather use original shredding oil for your machines. I am sure in the past you must have had a few goof ups, gumming up of papers and hot burning of the machines in the time of action. Well, put all those experiences behind you, and move on further towards learning some simple ways to know how to oil a shredder machine.

Every machine needs thorough maintenance such that it doesn't die out in a few years and gives you good performance in the future. For such a result, regularly oiling the cutting heads of the shredder is effective and essential. Now it's obvious that paper shredders undergoing heavy usage are naturally going to need more lubrication. Probably in every five hours, an oiling hand would be required. Basically this type of frequency in the shredder oils is influenced by couple of factors. FYI there are two types of shredders, one is cross cut and the other is strip cut. Cross cut shredders need more oiling than a strip cut. Eventually their application timings would differ itself. Now let's not get too technical on this simple subject. Just remember one little thing. Oil the machine whenever you change the machine's bag. But that also depends upon the material thrown at the shredder and it's effective performance.

Simple Way to Oil a Paper Shredder

As mentioned before, use specifically designed oil for your machine. Not even WD-40. Since shredder oils come in a variety like aerosol and liquids, the most commonly used is the liquid oil. Before you rumble into the action, shake the bottle gently and then directly spray it onto the cutting heads of the shredder. Apply it finely. This action is done through the paper entry throat. Hold the spray for a second or two to squeeze it properly from one opening side to another.

Now turn the shredder in the reverse direction and run the gears reversely for some time. Meanwhile spray for about 15-20 seconds on the facing side. This action will permit the oil to seep to all the reachable parts of the cutting head. There certainly would be some excessive oil in the machine. Slip in few rough papers and remove all that excess oil on it.

Hope that wasn't too complicated to understand. The concept is very simple to understand that the more the usage is, more often a shredder requires an oiling. I am sure about one thing now, at your workplace, all your paperwork is going to go much faster. Ultimately that would save much of your time and energy cracking your head over a piece of junk!
