Pancreatic Cancer and its Complementary Treatments
Read more about Pancreatic Cancer, what it is, its symptoms and how it can be treated using conventional and complementary treatments.
What It Is
Pancreatic cancer is the name given to cancer of the pancreas. The pancreas forms part of the reproductive system, being situated just behind the stomach, and its role is to produce insulin and digestive juices.
It is shaped like a leaf, and the different parts are known as the head, body and tail. Cancer forms when malignant cells are present in the pancreas, and most cancer cases occur in the head.
Causes of Pancreatic Cancer
Pancreatic cancer can be caused by a number of factors. However, we know that the most common cause is through a poor diet. One of the roles of the pancreas is to produce enzymes, and when people eat diets high in cooked food, the pancreas has to do excess work to make up the enzymes that are not present in cooked food.
One of these enzymes is called trypsin. This is known as a cancer-killing enzyme, as it destroys the ‘coat’ of the cancer cells so the white blood cells can enter into and destroy them. Eating cooked foods means the trypsin is used up in the digestive tract, and there is none left to fight the tumour. Therefore, a diet lacking in fresh fruit and vegetables is known to put people at risk.
As with all cancers, we know that factors such as toxins, a weak immune system, an acidic pH balance and oxygen deprivation are also known causes. Research has also suggested that smoking, a high-fat diet and long-term alcohol abuse can all lead to pancreatic cancer.
Pancreatic Cancer Symptoms
There are a number of symptoms related to pancreatic cancer, although we should make it clear that all of these are common symptoms of less serious conditions as well.
The most common reason why people suffering from pancreatic cancer go to the doctor in the first instance is because jaundice, which is the yellowing of the skin and eyes. But other symptoms such as weight loss, back pain, fever, itching and diabetes are all possible symptoms.
Conventional Treatments
For pancreatic cancer sufferers, there is a type of surgery known as the Whipple Procedure, which is a common type of treatment. This is the name given to the process of removing the head of the pancreas as well as part of the small intestine, the gall bladder and the bile duct. Of course, this is only possible if the cancer occurs in the head of the pancreas.
This has a number of side effects, including nausea, the possibility of infection and even temporary diabetes.
Another type of surgery is for cancer occurring in the tail of the pancreas, and this is known as a distal pancreatectomy. This has many similar side effects to the surgery of the head of the pancreas.
Other conventional treatments for pancreatic cancer include radiation and chemotherapy, and these are often used alongside one another. This type of treatment is especially common when the cancer has spread and surgery is no longer an option. These have a number of unpleasant side effects, including feelings of nausea, weakness and hair loss.
Targeted drug therapy is another form of treatment which is more recent than the others. This involves using specific drugs, such as Tarceva and Erlotinib, to target the cancer cells themselves.
Alternative and Complementary Treatments
As diet plays such a large role in the cause of pancreatic cancer cases, it is therefore no surprise to find out that it is also one of the most effective alternative treatments. Alternative therapies offer a completely natural way to counteract cancer, and we would recommend the Budwig Diet as one option. This is a long-established technique for curing all types of different cancer, and its ability to cure pancreatic cancer is well established.
Essentially, cancer cells require glucose in order to grow. Therefore, the more glucose we eat, the more the cancer cells will grow. Cancer cells are so intelligent that they even produce IGF (insulin-like growth factor) to get access to more glucose. A diet high in sugar leads to an excess of glucose in the blood, and the body therefore uses more insulin leading to the growth of the cancer cells.
By following the Budwig Diet, cancer cells can be prevented from growing. The diet is rich in raw, leafy vegetables, fresh fruit and nuts, and aims to cut out the consumption of all sugars. We also know that eating less sugar will strengthen the immune system, enabling it to fight cancer cells which will have become weak.
On top of this, we can recommend many other alternative therapies to go alongside the Budwig Diet. These alternative treatments include such practices as biophotonic light therapy, which uses UV rays to target the cancer cells in a natural process that destroys them; high body-temperature therapy, which encourages the body to sweat and release the harmful toxins within; emotional freedom techniques, which aim to balance the meridian of the cancer patient and restore inner strength; and massage therapy, which incorporates a range of massage types, including deep tissue massage and Swedish massage, in order to restore strength and improve circulation.
