Pakistan Army Plans to Take Down Taliban
In the wake of another militant attack, Pakistan, wages a "government v/s militants" war. Here is the latest update.
The attack resulted in a gun-battle lasting around 45 minutes between the armed men who attacked the headquarters, and the soldiers at the base. Police official Mohammed Jalil said about today's (10th October 2009) militant attack that, "gunmen drove up to the army headquarters compound in a white van just before midday local time (0600 GMT). They took up positions, fired on the compound and threw hand grenades." Later, security officials confirmed that, "roads to the area were sealed off and helicopters hovered over the compound."
Sources confirmed that whilst four of the gunmen were killed, six soldiers had to lay down their lives. May their souls rest in peace.
While initial reports said that all the gunmen had been killed, information from a military official revealed that two of the malicious militants were still at large. These two had somehow managed to slip into the compound, said the official. The attack comes, as the country's army continues preparing itself to take action against Taliban.
The month of August saw a relatively silent Taliban, where Pakistan was concerned. It is no secret that the cause is the sad (yes, sarcasm intended) death of the Taliban leader Abdullah Mehsood. However, recently, with increase in the number of militant attacks and their intensity, Pakistan is bound to take stringent action.
The Pakistan army is on a rigorous mission to take down Taliban. In response to this intention, Taliban had declared that their attacks will go on, till the operations against the militant groups stop. Not deterred by such a threat, a lot of the rural Taliban camps are being attacked, mostly by the air force. Pakistani defense seems to be intensifying the attacks and proving their resolve.
Pakistan has been seeing intense militant attacks all over the country, more specifically in the north western region. While the war between the government and the militants rages, hope for peace still lingers in the heart of many Pakistanis. This is where I sign off!
