Painful Scalp

Possible Causes
Dandruff
Shedding of dead skin cells from scalp is referred to as dandruff. Some amount of flaking is normal but for some people it could be a chronic condition, which can create problems. They experience unusual amount of flaking as a result of certain triggers. Dandruff is the most common amongst the reasons. The pain is accompanied by redness and irritation.
Infection
Many times, infections of the scalp can lead to pain. The infection could be from bacteria, ringworm or the likes. Red patches, black-colored dots and blisters are possible manifestations of any of such infection. Pain in the scalp then follows as a result of this infection. Pain and itchyness is an obvious effect of any skin infection.
Burning Scalp Syndrome
Hair shedding sometimes comes with a red, pink or an inflamed scalp. Now this obviously will be painful, itchy and it might become very tight. This results from the shedding process rather than any problem which is already existing. That causes a reaction at the spot of the hair loss on the scalp.
Migraine Headache
What happens in migraine is severe headache. This can be on both sides of the head or either sides and it could be in the frontal part of the head too. So there is every possibility that the pain radiates to the scalp even if there is no underlying medical condition in that area.
Headache as a Result of Tension
As the heading says, this type of headache is very common. The pain in such cases is dull, diffuse and non pulsating in the neck as well as scalp.
Brain Tumor
Cancer or tumor of the brain is another cause. One of the symptoms of brain tumor is headache as mentioned earlier, this headache can definitely lead to scalp pain. Of course, this a very rare reason, but it cannot be ignored.
Head Lice
Yes, remember scratching your head as a result of those fabulous head lice? Yes, you get head lice, you scratch your head and voila! The more you scratch your head, the more painful your scalp is going to feel. Get rid of these lice to deal with this problem.
Head Injury
Okay, this is definitely not rocket science! Do I need say that if you have a head injury, there are a lot of chances that your scalp is going to pain?
Apart from these there are a few other causes, but those are very rare. These are the most common and known causes of this problem. To deal with this, you need a good shampoo, which has a ph balance, taking good care of your hair and your scalp. For adding more teeth to the remedy, try adding Neem oil to the shampoo. Go for a good anti dandruff shampoo if the culprit is dandruff.
