Pain, A Blessing Or A Curse?
We can have all the notions in the world about how productively pain is and what's the value of suffering? How can a mother whose child asks: "Mom, when will I walk like the others kids do?" answer, and who gives her power to say, "My sweetheart, your first steps will be in heaven when you will see Jesus".
Yes in moments of deep pain when even your friends have no words, God is there! God is the sovereign master. When a young couple, waiting for their baby to come, finds that the most wanted child will not be able to walk and will have a different body...
When a child of God, who served Him for all her life, becomes the mother of a "different" child, is she entitled to ask God why?
It took a while till she accepted her child as a Gift of God. The sufferings she got through, made her think that the curse of God came upon her family. Who takes the stone? Is anyone who can judge? Is God less than loving or less than powerful our days?
Even if we do not see now, the situation is still under God's control in His mighty plan. Under God's control was her situation too. After much struggle the mother of this wonderful "different" child, was encouraged and finally had the answer. (John 9:2,3) "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?" "Neither this man nor his parents sinned," said Jesus, "but this happened so that the work of God might be displayed in his life."
The work of God displayed abundant into their family. Finally the little child demonstrated the real blessing she was. From early childhood her heart was touched by Jesus' love. With His love she touched thousandth of lukewarm hearts transforming them into hot hearts.
"I know your deeds that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm - neither hot nor cold - I am about to spit you out of my mouth." (Revelations 3:15,16)
What a blessing to be touched by a person with disabilities! God has always wonderful ways to transform our soul and make it hot from lukewarm it was. How can anyone's heart remain of stone when you hear Psalm 139 from a sweet voice in a wheelchair?
"For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother's womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place.
When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,
your eyes saw my unformed body.
All the days ordained for me
were written in your book
before one of them came to be.
How precious to me are your thoughts, O God!" (Psalm 139)
God indeed has marvelous ways to manifest His love in such a pain.
The one who knows what pain in the body means, said: "Who makes a mistake and I do not feel his sadness" Who takes the stone? Is anyone who can judge God is he less than loving or less than powerful?
Peter talks about pain in his book:
"Though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that your faith - of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire - may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed." (I Peter 1:6,7)
God is all-powerful all-sufficient even in these situations. Faith is worth far greater than gold so the trials we have to bare "for a little while" may result in praises, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. Our Father wants us to have faith.
It seems so hard to be happy in the middle of the trial, in the midst of pain, but for all that, our faith is renewed when we see needy people, praising and honoring God with such love and passion.
What makes a person say "If I had to choose between my legs (she didn't have legs) and God I gladly chose God, He is the one who gave the sense of my living."
Our God is alive! He is not a powerless God, He cares about us! He is the sense of our existence.
These souls who suffer in their body "now for a little while", who were born like this so that the work of God might be displayed in their life, may one day witness for the souls who in these life had no infirmity but lack of faith. After seeing so much faith into a suffering body we are indebted to live and behave according to the name we call Christian - a follower of Christ.
