Our Town

A poem on how addiction, crime and uncertain times can lead to a downfall of a small community...
Daily we walk along as if nothing was wrong,
We see familiar faces in dire places
That want to move along
The drug induced streets riddled with chemical love
This is what’s left of my town.

Around the corner the local vagabond begs for forgiveness
Along with the grocery stores that beg for your business
We learn of these harsh times as we grow older
As the hunger ravaged town grows smaller and colder
Welcome to my town.

The hell bent teens run around just to scream and shout
Material love has surpassed that of what natural love was all about
And a haze lifts over the city with an ominous glow that makes you wonder
What ever happened to this town?

Times changed, as vices came
Who are we to say that we once were great?
How do we grow older but not wiser?
This vicious circle that will never stop
This is my town

When streets were paved and sidewalks cleaned
When we were family and was no greed
That was our town.

Families packed and left
For better lives somewhere out west
I implore you to heed this warning
Because you will miss what once was our town
