Ontario Ready to Release New Driving Laws

The Ontario government is serious about ensuring road safety. They are ready to instate new laws that will hopefully decrease the number of distractions drivers are allowed to deal with while driving.
Ontario Ready to Release New Driving Laws
Driving actually consumes a lot of your attentional resources, or at least if you are fully paying attention. Many of us do not always pay 100% perfect attention while driving for a plethora of reasons - sleepy, eating a sandwich, drinking a coffee, talking on a cell phone, and even alcohol. The Ontario government is looking to reduce driver distractions by cracking down on drinking and driving and also hand held electronic devices.

There will be stricter regulations surrounding drinking and driving. What used to be the warning range - a blood alcohol concentration of 0.05 - 0.08 - is now considered a full offense, and will suspend the driver's license if caught by the police. A zero tolerance policy will also be placed on all first year drivers, and all drivers under the age of 21.

Drivers can now also be fined up to $500 for using cell phones and other hand held electronic devices while driving. There have been many studies that have seen a correlation between decreased attention and the use of cell phones. It was only a matter of time before this law got passed. Careless driving is one of the leading causes of fatal accidents, and one less thing to distract the driver means more concentration on what's happening on the road.

Careless drivers beware, a traffic ticket can now be given for a multitude of reasons. It is advantageous to everyone if we all keep our eyes on the road, and our cells in our pockets.
