Old Sturbridge is an outdoor history museum that is truly unique with more than 40 original buildings to tour. The buildings were originally located throughout New England, but in order to create Old Sturbridge Village these buildings were researched and restored and then transported to the outdoor museum. There are homes, country stores, a school, meetinghouses, a law office, bank, carding mill, shoe shop, a pottery shop, a cooper shop, gristmill, and much more!
When you arrive at Old Sturbridge you will be greeted by staff in period costume. These individuals are referred to as history interpreters and they will lead you through the daily life of people from the early 19th century. You will hear a blacksmith hammering and see farmers plowing the fields the old-fashioned way. You will likely even smell fresh bread being baked in a fireplace! Old Sturbridge Village is made up of more than 200 acres, which makes it a very special place to visit ripe with new experiences for new and old family members alike.
