All over the world, an oily face is the bugbear of teens and people in their 20s. The causes of oily skin are varied, ranging from hormonal changes, heredity, diet and allergies. Whatever your individual reason may be, the result is that the sebaceous glands release a lot more oil on the skin. When this oil is released in large quantities, it blocks the pores on the skin and causes pimples, blackheads and several other blemishes on the skin which look terrible. Many people have this problem in their teens but sometimes the problem continuous for a longer time.

Oily Face Treatment

The first step for oily face control is to find the reason why the skin is oily. The skin secretes oil due to a variety of reasons namely, heredity, diet, birth control pills, pregnancy, use of certain cosmetics and hormonal changes. If you can find the exact reason why your skin is oily, you can control the secretion of oil. For example, if your skin becomes oily and pimply due to the use of certain chemical cosmetics, it is better that you avoid these cosmetics and any others which contain the exact ingredient which you are allergic to. But if you have an oily face due to hormonal changes or heredity, there isn't any sure shot way to reduce oiliness. What you can do is take some precautionary measures to ensure that the impact of either of these factors is as low as possible. So here are some remedies for oily face which will be useful.

Remedy #1: Wash
The simplest and most common oily face remedy is to wash your face regularly. Use lukewarm to hot water to wash your face as hot water dissolves the oil on the face better. While you wash your face, do not use overly harsh products as they make the skin dry. Use oil-based products that will dissolve the excess sebum on the face. You should also avoid washing your face too many times as it might stimulate the skin to produce more oil.

While washing the face makes sure that you massage it in an upward and outward motion, with your fingertips. Make sure that you avoid cosmetics which you are allergic to. There is also a range of cosmetics specially made for oily skin. Before applying makeup, you could also use an antiseptic day cream with benzyl peroxide active ingredient.

Remedy #2: Natural Skincare
If you have an oily face, there are also some natural skin care products for treating the problem. It is said that applying half teaspoon of cucumber juice and lime juice 30 minutes before taking a bath will help reduce the oiliness of the skin. If your skin is excessively oily, then you ought to mix a bit of eau de cologne into the cucumber and lime mix. Eau de cologne acts as an effective astringent. If you wish to use any other astringent, make sure that it contains acetone. If the astringent is too strong, then it might cause overproduction of oil and thus only worsen the problem. Another natural remedy for oily face is to apply a face pack of clay and honey and leave the mask on for about 15 minutes. You can apply this face pack three times a week. Herbs that are known to be good for oily face include aloe vera, burdock root, chamomile, horsetail, lavender, oat straw, and thyme. So make sure that any face wash, face creams or ready-made face pack that you use contains one or more of these ingredients.

Remedy #3: Diet
Keeping an eye on what you eat is also one of the best oily face remedies. If you have oily skin, you should ensure that you consume a diet which is rich in proteins, leafy vegetables and fresh fruits. A vitamin B2 deficiency is known to cause oily skin, so make sure that you consume foods with adequate amount of vitamin B2 like whole grains, beans, nuts, etc. in your diet. Also you should consume enough water to ensure that your skin stays hydrated throughout the day and flushes out all the toxins in the body. Stay clear off sugars, salts and fats as they only aggravate the problem of oily skin. Also, you should avoid deep-fried foods and sodas. Consumption of alcohol and junk food also leads to oily face, so oily face remedies include avoiding these items as well.

These oily face remedies help in reducing pimples and spots on faces if not completely eliminate them. Mind you, these remedies are very general, so if you have an unnaturally oily face, it is recommended that you see a dermatologist rather than experimenting with your skin without consulting a doctor.
