Midnight fell and I needed to meet Toby.

'I'm going home to rest a bit. Do you mind?' I asked. I hated lying to him but I needed to get out of here.

'Yea, sure baby.' he smiled kissing my forehead. I left. Once I jumped the fence of the pool I heard some splashing. I look at the water to see a guy jumping out.

'You came?'

'I came.'

'You wanted to come?'

'I wanted to come.'

'You left you baby to see me?'

'She's going to be okay. So they say.' I tell Toby.

'What do they know?' he chuckled grabbing a bag and returning to me.

'We will see.' I say sitting down so my feet are in the water as Toby came to join me handing me a cookie.

'I talked to Alex today.' He says taking a bite of his own.

'Really?' I ask.

'Yea, He is really worried about you.' he tells me.

'I know. What did he say to you?'

'Just that you have been crying a lot lately and that you keep acting like you're okay when he knows you're faking it. He is dying to have you tell him the truth.' He says looking up from his cookie with his amazing green eyes.

'I know. But I can't.' I tell Toby looking down at the water again, shimmering.

'Why not?'

'I don't want my pain to cause him pain and if I tell him what's truly wrong it will make him even more sad.' I tell him. I felt his gaze on me.

'Can you tell me what's going on?' he took a bite out of his cookie.

'It's a really long story.' I say turning to face him.

'I got time.' Toby smiles. His dark tan made his smile even brighter, even though it was the middle of the night.

'Well, for starters I am worried about Chloe, I mean, I want her to be okay. I want her to be perfect, because it feels like she should be.' I tell him looking back down at the water. 'Than,' I go on, 'don't get me started on Alex himself. I mean, he is amazing and that's what scares me. I always have been alone. I don't need a man, you know? Like my dad left my mom when they had Lindsey in college than later when they reunited they had me and he left so it's always been just my mom, Lindsey and I. We don't need men. But Alex, he is incredible and than I fell like I'm not good enough. I'm not pretty enough. I'm not popular enough!' I was getting worked up. I took a deep breath to calm myself. 'I just.... I just guess I need someone.'

'So,' Toby says finally. 'you're saying, that you're worried not only because of Chloe but Alex. Because, you have always been alone and independent and not need a man until Alex came along, now you are feeling like your're not good enough? Does that sum that up?' he asks.

'Yeah,' I breath. Toby was a good listener.

'Okay.'

'Do you think that's okay?'

'Yea, It's okay to feel like that sometimes. You can't help it.' He tells me. 'Maybe we need to swim.' he smiles.

'But we just ate.' I tell him.

'Just a cookie, don't worry it will be fine.' he smiles and somehow I believed him. So I took his hand and we jumped into the water.
