Ogaden, 'Ethiopia', and the entire Africa at the Brink of Islamist Abyss
Many months ago, when the Amhara and Tigray soldiers of the Abyssinian dictator had not started their adventure in Somalia, through this column we warned every involved party about the possibility of the Horn of Africa and consequently the entire Black Continent turning out to be the next hotbed, and ultimately the greatest success story of the Islamic Terrorism. Unfortunately, we proved to be absolutely correct in our prediction.
Recent developments demonstrate perfectly well the argumentation exposed in an article published as early as November 24, 2006, under the title 'Avert an East African Islamic Terror Volcano – Break down fake ‘Ethiopia'.
Western ignorance and paranoia at the origin of disastrous decisions
It all started with the rise of the Somali Islamic Courts of Justice to power. Was Islamic Somalia a dangerous state for the US-led War against Terrorism? The answer is ‘No’.
The Islamic Courts of Justice did not rule over the entire Somalia; Somaliland had declared independence long ago unifying the Somali North, and although a self-styled administration organized free elections and sought to develop administrative infrastructure, perilously enough for the world safety it has not yet been recognized.
Furthermore, Puntland, another state formation achieved to control the Horn of Africa regions of Somalia, and although it never managed good neighborhood with Somaliland, it had nothing in common with the Islamists who were left with less than one third of the country’s surface and population around the South. Out of 10 million Somalis, the Islamist government of Mogadishu did not control more than 3.5 million people. It enforced Islamic law Sharia only in the area it brought under control.
If the Islamic Courts of Justice were left to rule that small part of Somalia, they would never manage to convince the people and the administration of Puntland to merge with them. Somaliland, seeking international recognition, had ruled a perspective of re-unification out. And the Ogadenis, Somalis who live in Ogaden, Somalia’s part that is under the tyrannical control of dictator Meles Zenawi, although striving for independence, would never consider the option of joining forces with Islamist Mogadishu.
The correct choice would be to leave the Islamic Courts of Justice rule their tiny part of Somalia, keeping them isolated from the rest.
Seeking to unnecessarily eliminate the Islamic Courts of Justice, the US helped them expand throughout Africa like mushrooms. Where lies the main error? There is an initial point of US misconception about Africa, and in this the Democrats rather than the Republicans are to be responsible, as they devised America’ African policy at the times of Clinton administration, and they did try to implement it with very poor results so far. The Republicans pursued the same policy, and even relied on Democrats for its implementation as regards Eastern Africa; by this we refer mainly to the disastrous December trip of Madeleine Albright to Addis Ababa. What is the American misconception of Africa?
Present borders in Africa are not sustainable anymore.
This is the fundamental error; as authentically non-colonial and anti-colonial country, the US should study carefully the History of Colonialism in Africa before shaping any policy related to the Black Continent. That policy, like every American policy, should be based on American values, the main concepts and principles propagated by the Founding Fathers.
America cannot shape a vision about Africa if acting in cooperation with colonial countries; it would be a disastrous confusion to assume that the Cold War allies are anything more than past allies and present enemies of America. France and England did not truly accept their loss of administrative presence in their past colonies; they managed to maintain colonial ties in the so-called post-colonial era, and a perspicacious view would lead any observer to the conclusion that colonialism is mostly a – lethal for Africa – reality of the post-colonial times. Any British and French advise or suggestion to US diplomats and statesmen as regards Africa is a vicious and deadly guideline targeting only the most secured American failure in Africa – a territory France and England always thought as theirs!
Part of the colonial powers’ strategy is the maintenance of the present day borders throughout Africa; the absurd, abnormal, anti-democratic, and economically catastrophic character of this strategy is evident. The State Department failed to grasp the reasons behind this colonial strategy.
In fact, the present borders guarantee Africa’s permanent submersion into underdevelopment, undemocratic and totalitarian structures, internal strives, cultural and educational collapse, re-producing therefore the African dependence on, and exploitation by, the criminal colonial powers.
Only with the present borders of Africa unchallenged, colonial France and England (having immorally and shamelessly laced the rest of Europe into their inhuman Chariot of Colonialism) have a chance to perpetuate a situation that brought a great wealth to their hands.
Only with these borders left valid, the colonial powers can hope to avoid/defer a great cultural challenge from African intellectuals who sooner or later will demand in public that Europe ceases the propagation and the maintenance of its racist, dehumanizing and absolutely false version of Greco-Romano-centric History, and admits the African and Oriental origins of the European civilization.
Only with these borders respected and maintained, France and England can hope to evade the – badly needed – international denunciation and castigation of the Colonial African Genocide, preserving for some time the façade of civilized nations – despite of the fact that they perpetrated in Africa crimes worse than those committed by Hitler and Stalin combined.
A changing world
As the years pass, more and more people from all the African oppressed nations that have been strangled because of the colonial plans traveled to free part of the world, and settled in the US, Australia, South Africa and Canada. They made clear to their oppressed relatives, friends and compatriots the privileges of a free life and the advantages of the development.
As the Eastern European block collapsed and young nations, Macedonia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, etc, found their way to national independence, freedom, democracy, and international recognition, the hopes have been strengthened.
As Islamists dare oppose the US and their allies in Iraq and Afghanistan, oppressed African Muslims come to know that their fate is truly speaking in their hands only. Oppressed African Christians come to understand that they have more in common with the African Muslims than with the fake, criminal Christians of the West who helped perpetrate the Rwandan genocide. Oppressed African followers of authentic and indigenous religions, ideologies, philosophies and Weltanschauungen realize that they are ideologically more powerful than their Muslim and Christian compatriots, as they detain the keys to African originality. They have it therefore easy to join forces with the rest to lead the anti-colonial struggle for Freedom, Democracy and Independence.
How could America protect its interests, pursue its fight against Islamic Terrorism, and cope at the same time with these developments? One should take the case of Somalia as a good lesson, and enumerate the mistakes of the Bush administration. Identifying past mistakes is the best way to avoid unnecessary repetition.
US mistakes in the Horn of Africa area
First, as we already said, the US did not leave the Islamic Courts of Justice melt down in the administrative endeavours of the tiny part of Somalia they managed to control. They could not expand, and in addition, there was no guarantee that the Southern Somali masses would be happy with them and with Sharia after a year or two. One has to bear in mind that Sharia as practiced tolerantly before 600 years in the Eastern coast of Africa (which part of the Islamic African tradition) and Sharia as believed, practice and imposed by modern Islamists (as tool of their Anti-Western hysteria, and not of their religious devotion) are two different things; the latter is overwhelmingly rejected by the traditionalist and tolerant African Muslims. Except they are forced to realize that it is the only weapon they can have!
Second, they brought in a miserable and execrable tyranny, Abyssinia (falsely re-baptized as Ethiopia), a country that is a real Cemetery of Peoples and oppressed nations. What can possibly offer to the US the alliance with the most loathed and despised by the Somalis country, which is an anachronistic fossil able only to cause contempt and derision among all the African peoples? Certainly nothing!
Third, they failed to understand that longer the US let ‘Ethiopia’ exist, worse reactions they must expect from the tyrannized nations in despair, the Oromos, the Ogadenis, the Sidamas, and the Afars. America’s best interest imposes the immediate Death of ‘Ethiopia’, the decomposition of the monstrous and anachronistic African relic that would give birth to no less than five (5) separate countries:
1. Oromo and Sidama Ethiopia,
2. Ogaden (to possibly merge with either Somaliland, Puntland or Somalia),
3. Afar land (to possibly merge with Djibouti),
4. Tigray Abyssinia, and
5. Amhara land.
Not only the American diplomats should work towards this solution, but the dissolution of the Abyssinian tyranny should happen with further guarantee of the Tigray and Amhara Muslims’ rights. Only if the US respects principles and values stipulated by the American Constitution with the same vigor in the States and allover the world, has the US a chance to be respected and loved, and to reverse the unnecessarily risen and overwhelming Anti-Americanism.
Fourth, they failed to understand the interconnectedness of the puzzle components; as tyrannical Ethiopia is loathed and rejected by a sizeable part of its population, namely the Ogadenis, who happen to be Somali of origin, the chain reaction triggered would be awful! The US should compose an American policy for Africa, taking into consideration the existing links and the prevailing feelings.
The Somalis viewed the rise of the Abyssinian monarchical imperialism in the 20th century as the most repugnant development within the wider area of Eastern Africa; an uncivilized, barbaric and obsolete kingdom was supported by colonial powers to expand at a moment Somalis were divided into three colonial zones, French (today’s Djibouti), English (today’s Somaliland) and Italian (in areas currently controlled by Puntland and Somalia). With the British taking hold of Ogaden, and later transferring it to the Abyssinia monarchical rulers who had meanwhile got even worst reputation as perpetrators of the Oromo Genocide, the Somalis realized that the West stood for brutal oppression, phenomenal injustice, criminal partiality, unequaled iniquity, and sheer inhumanity. The same testimonies were demonstrated by the Soviet rulers, who shifted their policy from cooperation with Somalia to support of the pro-Communist Amhara dictator Mengistu. The Somalis viewed the American intervention in their country as another sign of Western wickedness targeting the well being of their country. Ogadeni Somalis shared this feeling, as they saw – in their ‘country’ – no difference in the ceremonial change of guard from pro-Communist Mengistu to pro-Western Meles Zenawi. The case of the Ogadenis is worse than that of the Somalis, as the latter got an independent country that was plunged into civil strife, whereas the former still belong to a country they never wished to belong, being under colonial rule down to our days.
The Abyssinian interference in Somalia was the last straw for the Ogadenis. Supporting a lewd criminal gangster like the Zenawi thug, instead of helping local peoples achieve national independence, freedom, and democratic societies, was the corroboration of an abominable image diffused allover the world by the Islamist denunciators of the West.
So, a simple impartial spectator would realize what the pathetic Albright woman could not because of her blindness; the reaction against the criminal Abyssinian army would not be a matter of few supporters of the Islamic Courts of Justice in Southern Somalia. It would become the Noble Cause of the interconnected components of the Eastern African volcano. The chain reaction that started is expected to go through the following stages.
Exasperated Africans against the US, UK, France and China
The struggle of the Somalis will empower the Islamists of the Islamic Courts of Justice who already monopolize the political expression of the Southern Somalis in their rightful fight against the traditional enemy who supported by the US turned out to be a barbaric and criminal invader.
The struggle of the Southern Somalis will be shared by the Somalis in Puntland and Somaliland. These are also Somalis; they may have wished to keep some distance from the Southern warlords who spread fratricide discord, disunion and death, and they may have disliked the Sharia rule of the Islamic Courts of Justice but to their eyes the rightful fight of the rebellious Islamists helps unite all the Somalis who represent Civilization and Humanism against the Abyssinian Amhara and Tigray Cannibalism.
The national struggle of the Somalis will be shared by the Ogadenis, who are the most oppressed and the most unfortunate among the Somalis as enslaved since the middle 1950s to the barbaric Abyssinians. We have already reached this stage, as the Ogaden National Liberation Front took responsibility for the operations carried out at Obala, in Northern Ogaden, that ended up with more than 400 Abyssinian and 6 Chinese casualties.
The fight of Ogadenis for Independence will be coordinated with various Oromo organizations that are determined to do whatever it takes to definitely destroy the ruthless and criminal dictator Zenawi, dismantle his military command over Oromia and the Southern provinces of Abyssinia, and send his analphabetic gangsters and thugs back to their Mekele city in the Tigray province.
The coordination of the Oromos with the Ogadenis will encourage the Sidamas in the South and the Afars in the North of Abyssinia to join forces and get rid of the Amhara and Tigray pestilence. As a matter of fact, Amharas will turn against the Tigrays in a deadly fight for supremacy in the sunken ship ‘Abyssinia’.
The independent Oromo state will rename Addis Ababa as Finfinne, and will deprive Amharas and Tigrays from the national name ‘Ethiopia’ that corresponds to the Kushitic Oromos and Sidamas.
The independent Ogaden will merge with Somaliland, Puntland and Southern Somalia into a Greater Somalia that will rise as a young powerful nation of almost 30 million people in the Horn of Africa.
The independent Afars will find every reason to merge with the Afars of Djibouti into a united homeland at a strategic position at the Bab al Mandeb straits.
The fight for freedom will be shared by the oppressed Amhara and Tigray Muslims who represent approximately 40% of the Amhara and Tigray population and have been the object of execrable oppression for centuries. Radicalized through their expected cooperation with the Somali Islamists, they will try to unify the Amhara and Tigray provinces of Abyssinia with Eritrea, giving new dimensions to the East African Islamic volcano.
With the Islamists in power allover Greater Somalia - Ogaden, it would be paradoxical to think that they would not help their long oppressed Amhara and Tigray brethren. With the collapse of the most hated ‘Debtera’ Monophysitic elite of the Amhara and Tigray tribes, a most virulent Islamist Abyssinian state will expand Fire and Revenge against the abominable deeds of the Colonial powers in Sudan, Egypt, Libya, Chad, Niger, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Western Sahara and Mauritania.
Further fueling Islamic revolt among the Beja, the Nubians, the Haussa and the Fur of Sudan, the Amhara – Tigray Islamists will provoke a domino effect across Northern Africa.
With the ongoing radicalization of all the African Muslims, no one among them will spend time thinking about interpretational subtleties and religious divergences; the anti-colonial revengeful feeling will have found a means of expression, and all the criminal deeds of the colonial powers will be projected upon, denounced and castigated.
How civilized an act was Lord Kitchener’s bravery to unearth Mahdi’s dead body to only burn it in the chimney of his Nile steamer!
How do the French dare speak of Armenian Genocide, in view of the Algerian Genocide that they perpetrated ceaselessly for 130 uninterrupted years, without having ever repented?
How do the Chinese dare close deals with tyrannical governments and help them exploit invaded lands and countries, stripping them of their natural resources?
Is there a way to avert the nightmarish African Islamic domino effect?
As anti-colonial country, America would have a chance; this chance lies with the Principles and the Concepts, the Values and the Ideals of the Founding Fathers; not the cooperation with the bogus-allies of the Cold War times. Nothing unites and everything separates the US from France and England. By siding with the oppressed peoples America, Mexico and Brazil can help form a great coalition of the two continents, liberating oppressed peoples, and eliminating thuggish elites.
Only this would prevent the African Islamic domino effect, and at the same time it would modify America’s tarnished image allover the world. It would also ensure new markets for the US, putting an end to the African dreams of the Chinese criminal dictators, who before supporting Zenawi should think twice how they will be able to avert the forthcoming Islamic explosion in Eastern Turkestan, an area they shamelessly call Sin Kiang, whereby 70 million Muslims are oppressed in Gulag-like conditions.
What happened to 6 Chinese in Ogaden heralds what will happen to 6 million Chinese in Eastern Turkestan and Tibet, countries that deserve Independence, Freedom and Democracy as much as Ogaden and Greater Somalia do.

O.N.L.F. Statement On Military Operation Against Illegal Oil Facility In Ogaden
24 April 2007
Before dawn this morning At 0430 AM local time in Ogaden, the 'Dufaan' commando unit of the Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF) conducted a military operation in the vicinity of Obala, 30km North-West of Degah-Bur in in Northern Ogaden. The operation targeted 3 military units of the TPLF regime who were guarding an oil exploration field. Exploration activities at the field began recently following an agreement between the Ethiopian government and a Chinese company.
As part of this agreement large areas inhabited by ethnic Somalis were cleared with civilians being forcefully removed from their homes by Ethiopian troops. In addition, Ethiopian forces closed off a large area denying the local nomadic population their traditional grazing areas in order to establish a security perimeter guarded by Ethiopian troops for the oil facility.
TPLF forces in Obala have now been wiped out with many having surrendered to ONLF commandos. Nearly 400 Ethiopian troops have been wounded or killed. Explosions caused by munitions during the battle resulted in the death of a handful of Chinese oil workers. The oil facility itself has been completely destroyed.
ONLF forces rounding up Ethiopian military prisoners following the battle came across 6 Chinese workers. They have been removed from the battlefield for their own safety and are being treated well.
The ONLF has stated on numerous occasions that we will not allow the mineral resources of our people to be exploited by this regime or any firm that it enters into an illegal contract with so long as the people of Ogaden are denied their rights to self-determination.
By refusing to discuss a comprehensive political solution to the Ogaden issue in a neutral country and in the presence of a third party, the TPLF regime has made clear its intention to continue to pursue a military solution in Ogaden. As such, we wish to reaffirm to the international community that the Ogaden region continues to be a battle zone between armed forces of the current TPLF led regime and our liberation forces. It is not a safe environment for any oil exploration to occur.
The ONLF has informed the Chinese government in the past that it would be unwise to pursue discussions with the TPLF as it was not in a position to guarantee the safety of any firm operating in Ogaden nor was it in a position to enter into contracts with foreign companies for Oil exploration in Ogaden. Unfortunately this warning fell on deaf ears.
We urge all international oil companies to refrain from entering into agreements with the Ethiopian government as it is not in effective control of the Ogaden despite the claims it makes.
Oil investments in Ogaden will result in a similar loss for any firm that believes assurances of security it receives from the Ethiopian government which has never been in effective control of Ogaden
Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF)
