Officials Suspect Prescription Drugs Killed Whitney Houston

Information is emerging suggesting that the pop icon died from a mixture of prescription drugs and alcohol, rather than drowning in a bathtub as had been previously reported.
Whitney Houston's body was found in the bathtub of the Beveryly Hilton Hotel on Saturday afternoon, but there is new information suggesting that her death was not caused by drowning. Instead, TMZ is reporting that Houston was taking Xanax and possibly a mixture of several other types of prescription medication at the time of her death. The coroner's report has suggested that she didn't have enough water in her lungs when she was discovered to indicate that she had died from drowning.

Whitney was expected to attend a pre-Grammy's party at the same hotel later in the evening - and that party went on as planned as the singing legend's body was being tended to several floors above. Word spread quickly via social media and television and by Saturday evening, the world knew that Whitney Houston was gone.

Much of Sunday night's Grammy Awards were dedicated to Whitney Houston, including an opening prayer from host LL Cool J and a performance of I Will Always Love You by Jennifer Hudson.

Despite years of obvious struggles with drugs and alcohol, Whitney Houston's death at the age of 48 was a shock to everyone who knew her - and her legions of fans who recall her glory years in the 1980s and 1990s. In her prime, there was no one with the physical talents or commanding presence of Whitney Houston. Even decades after she took the world by storm, there are few in contemporary music with a voice that could compete with Whitney's during her rise to fame.
