Losing Weight with the Oatmeal Diet
Eating oatmeal to lose weight is one of the great ideas as you do not have to sacrifice taste for health. Variations in the oatmeal diet make sure that you enjoy food which is essential for any diet to be successful. There are no specific oatmeal diet rules or regulations, all you have to do is eat oatmeal at least for two meals of the day. Given below are some tips that would help you plan your own oatmeal diet for weight loss.
- The best option is whole and organic oatmeal. Avoid eating processed or flavored oatmeal when trying to lose weight as it is loaded with extra calories and the nutrition quotient is lower. Make sure you go for plain and whole variety when buying oatmeal from the market.
- You must start your day with an oatmeal porridge as it provides you with lot of energy to start the day. Oatmeal is also very filling so you will not feel hungry throughout the day. Though there are less calories in oatmeal, make sure you cook your porridge with water or low fat milk. You can also go for skimmed milk which is extremely low in fat and high on proteins and calcium.
- It is advisable to have wholesome lunch including lots of raw vegetables and fruits. You can also eat boiled chicken with small serving of plain boiled rice or brown bread and salad. But if you wish to stick to oatmeal then combine it with leafy vegetable salad or boiled chicken pieces or boiled fish of your choices. Make sure to only consume raw, boiled, baked, or broiled seasonings with oatmeal if you are treating it like a weight loss diet.
- Consume handful of nuts or fruit pieces for snacking. Keep your self away from tempting snacks as they can ruin your entire diet. You can go for small granola bar once a while but do not eat it every day as it can adversely affect your diet by increasing calories. You can also eat plain yogurt or small piece of low fat cheese or few pieces of fresh fruits.
- For dinner, have oatmeal. You can cook oatmeal in a different manner by adding various spices, salt and vegetables. You may experiment with different seasonings to avoid monotony in your diet. Try to take your dinner at least two to three hours before you hit the bed. Also make sure to drink at least eight to nine glasses of water throughout the day to avoid dehydration.
The reason for having one well-balanced meal in a day is that any diet based on single food can deprive your body of other nutrients resulting in nutrition deficiencies. You can follow the oatmeal diet for seven to ten days and check if it's working for you. You may wish to continue this diet for any period you want if it helps you stay slim and fit. But pregnant women and the ill should not follow this diet without consulting a doctor.
