Although oat milk is available in the market, one can easily make oat milk at home using an oat milk recipe.
How to Make Oat Milk?
You can choose a recipe over the other depending on the situation at home. Some of the recipes demand, soaked oats while others make use of hot water to make the milk. If you suffer from gluten allergy, then you will have to ensure you use oats, which are gluten free.
Easy Recipe
It is one of the simple recipes, which uses rolled oats to make oat milk. Barley miso is also one of the ingredients used. If you are allergic to barley, then you may want to skip the ingredient.
Ingredients
- 3 cups water
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 4 tsp barley miso
- Bring the water to a rolling boil.
- Remove water from heat and add rolled oats to it and let it soak for about 15 to 30 minutes.
- Add barley miso and blend all the ingredients well.
- Once miso is dissolved and the mixture has reached the right consistency, you can serve it.
This recipe uses uncooked oats for this recipe. The only disadvantage of this recipe is that if you want oat milk in the morning, you will have to start with the preparation the previous night itself. However, it is worth the trouble.
Ingredients
- ¾ dry oat groats
- water to soak
- filter cup
- For this oat milk, rinse and drain the oat groats.
- Soak the oat groats in water for approximately 6 to 8 hours in a filter cup.
- Ensure that the cup is 2/3 full with water.
- You can either discard the groats or blend them with water in the filter cup and use the milk.
This is another recipe to make oat milk. In this version, oats will be cooked. It also makes use of miso.
Ingredients
- 1 cup natural oats
- 2 tbsp miso
- 5 cups water
- In a saucepan bring 3 cups of water to a boil.
- Add oats to the water and let it cook for 8 to 10 minutes.
- Remove the sauce pan from heat and let the mixture cool down to room temperature.
- After the mixture cools down add miso to the mixture and continue to stir, till miso is dissolved.
- Cover the mixture and keep aside overnight.
- In the morning, puree the mixture in a blender and serve.
- You may choose to serve it warm, but ensure the milk is warm and not hot, lest the enzymes may be destroyed.
- It is best to serve the milk cold.
