Nothing But Bad News for Women When It Comes To Equality
Some may talk the talk of equality, but the reality is that women still live at the bottom of the pile.
Under a mantle of secrecy, the most powerful and richest people in the world, joined in an unprecedented secret meeting, at the home of the president of the Manhatton medical school, at Rockefeller University, at the invitation of Bill Gates, Warren Buffett and David Rockefeller.
One attendee said "We came together to see if we could join together to do more to help, in the light of the world economic downturn. This group is very committed to philanthropy". It is believed the five hour afternoon/dinner meeting’s agenda discussed how they could best use their position to help people who are caught in the throes of a financial crisis.
Those attending the meeting included such billionaire moguls as Michael Bloomberg, George Soros, Peter Petersen, Ted Turner and Eli Broad. All are well known for their philanthropic endeavors. However, it seems the only female billionaire to attend the secret meeting was Oprah Winfrey
Yet for all the moves forward in the equality race, women are still a long way behind the eight ball.
Women are equal to less than 1% of departmental heads, editors, media owners, however they make up one third of the number of working journalists
Women make 80% of purchasing decisions
While women do 66% of the world’s work, they only receive 10% of world’s income
Less than 1% the world’s assets are owned by women
Universally women make up 42% of Internet users
Women are 66% of the 1 billion plus, illiterate adults who have absolutely no access to basic education
Items on females make up only 21% of all news
Finally – a piece of trivia: Women use 20,000 words a day, compared to 7,000 spoken by men.
