Not Today, Buddy - Chapter One (Pt. I)

She laughed. He couldn't honestly think she was that easy, did he? He'd have to work to get her--and he did.
Chapter One (pt. I)
-----------------
"He’s obviously interested," a tipsy Allie commented, placing her drink carelessly on the table. Kelly snorted "No, really?"
He’d been making eyes at her during the entire damn time she was here, of course he was interested.

Question was, was she?

As if reading her mind, her other sidekick, Arianna, chided "He’s not exactly a bad choice for you, Kelly. Don’t shoot him down before even giving him a shot."

"I didn’t say I was going to shoot him down, did I?" Kelly protested back, irritated of her friend’s assumption. Honestly. They were best friends and all, but she was no mind reader.

"Of course not," Arianna softly soothed, giving a supporting squeeze to her hand. "After all, he is your type, isn’t he? Shaggy hair, blue eyes, tall, player type…" Rewarded by a glare, the brunette quietly tucked a loose strand of light brown hair behind her ear and concentrated on the floor, threading her fingers together, the picture of innocence, a hidden smirk on her lips.

Annoyed, Kelly strayed her attention surreptitiously to the boy-er, man in question, appraising his casual stance in which he ordered the bartender for another drink, eyes lit bright with alcohol.

"Ooo, she’s checking him out. Phase One, complete!"

Allie and Arianna high fived, the former erupting into a fit of giggles as Kelly sent a withering glance at the two of them. "Really? How immature can you two get? And yeah, okay, maybe I’m checking him out a little, but that doesn’t mean I’m interested."

The sidekicks exchanged knowing looks. "Phase two: denial!"

Kelly scoffed. "Honestly, you two..." The rest of her sentence trailed off as her best friends’ new source of fan girl squealing approached, his arrogant stride marking the area he walked on, as if he owned the place.

Brushing the blonde hair out of his eyes, a deep raucous voice said, "Hi." He ran his eyes over her body appreciatively, and Kelly frowned slightly, feeling slightly intruded. Taking a cautionary step back, she hastily returned "Kelly. You?"

"Mark," the man said, grinning leeringly at her body, making her reconsider even giving him a chance.

As she looked around for moral support from her friends, she discovered her friends had abandoned her-Allie calling to some random guy "Hey, you, wanna buy me a drink?", Arianna with a polite and careful goodbye, warily watching Mark out of the corner of her eye as she receded.

Ah. So much for sidekicks.

So this is part uno of the first chapter. I was going to write out the entire chapter....but then I decided I'm just going to post this up before my nerves get the best of me.
My favorite character right now is Arianna. It's always the quiet ones ;)
