Not Like My Fairytale Life - Chapter 1

"We grow great by dreams. All big men are dreamers. They see things in the soft haze of a spring day or in the red fire of a long winter's evening. Some of us let these great dreams die, but others nourish and protect them; nurse them through bad days till they bring them to the sunshine and light which comes always to those who sincerely hope that their dreams will come true." - Woodrow Wilson.
"Karl, have you packed up everything?" Asked Aliza as she entered the bedroom with some neatly folded clothes with her.
"Yes, everything," he replied, while looking down arranging the things in his suitcase.
"Liza, where's mine file that I gave you last night," he asked still not looking up.
"It's in the cupboard, let me get it," she said before placing the clothes in the suitcase.
She went to the cupboard and hands the file to him.

"So, when is your flight," she asked standing beside him.
"I told you, it's 5 am. Why?" He asked a bit confused.
"It's just - I think you should check on Risa," said Aliza.
"Why? Mustn't she be sleeping? It's already 12," he asked still confused.
"Karl, I don't think she is sleeping. And also she didn't ate anything from morning," she said the last part hesitating.
"What?" He asked in shock.
Aliza just stared at him with sad eyes and he understood what might have happened. Without any word he ran to his daughter's room.

"Risa, are you sleeping?" Karl asked knocking lightly on the door. There was no response. But he knew she isn't sleeping.
He turned the knob and opened the door. And found his daughter sitting on the bed looking at the photo frame on her little hands.
He sighed. "Risa, why didn't you eat anything?" He asked and moved towards her.
"What are you looking at, Risa?" He asked as he sat on the bed beside her and find a picture of him and Risa laughing, while he holding her in his arm. It was a pic of few months ago at a park, when he and his little family were spending the weekend in Sydney. He smiled remembering their little holiday.

Risa looked at her father with sad eyes and asked," Are you going, Daddy?"
He sighed and picked her up, placing her on his lap," Yes, my darling?"
At that time Aliza entered the room with food. She handed it over to Karl knowing that he could only make her eat. She kissed her daughter in the cheek and ruffled her hair and went away.
"Risa, you haven't eaten anything from morning. Let's eat," he said and raised the spoon to her mouth. But she didn't eat.

She just stared at her father with same sad eyes.
"Please, Risa," he pleaded.
But she just shook her head.
He sighed and put the food aside on the bed.
"Risa, do you know something. Your daddy loves you very much and so does you mama. But she loves you so much that she too hasn't eaten anything from morning. And will not eat unless you do." He said. He then again raised the spoon to her mouth. She did eat this time, but after one bite she ran downstairs. After few minutes Risa entered her room pulling her mother with her.

"Risa, what happened?" She kept asking Risa from the time she pulled her to her room. But she didn't answer; instead she just made her mother sit beside her father. Both her father and mother were equally confused.
Then Risa with her chubby hand brought the food plate to her mother and raised the spoon to her mouth, with a smile.
Karl smiled at his daughter's sweet gesture. But Aliza, she couldn't hold back the tears that rolled down her cheek.

She ate, and then took the plate from her giving it to Karl and embraced her.
"Mama, I'm sorry," Risa said in her sweet voice.
"What are you sorry for?" She asked with surprised, pulling back her daughter.
"You didn't eat anything because of me, that's why I'm sorry," Risa said.
"Who told you that?" She asked still surprised.
"Daddy," Risa replied.
She looked up at Karl with a questioning look, but Karl just return a sheepish smile.
"I'm sorry," Risa said again, and the guilt were very much clear on her face, with tears on her eyes.

Aliza embraced her again and said, "You shouldn't be sorry for anything, Risa. Yes, I didn't eat. It is true, but that isn't your fault. I love you very much, like every mother. So, how can you think a mother can eat something when her most precious child has not eaten anything from morning? Do you think I could even feel hungry when my most precious daughter is starving?" And she lightly she soothe her hair.
"Mama, I am hungry. Shall we eat now?" Risa asked looking up at her mother.
Aliza pulled her back and nodded with a smile, then rose her putting her on her lap.
"So, this mean that I'm going to be the luckiest man on the earth who is getting the opportunity to feed the most beautiful ladies with his own hand." Karl said with a smile.
At this Aliza chuckled.
"Mama, what is the meaning of 'opportunity'?" Risa asked confused.
At this both Karl and Aliza burst out laughing.

"And then Cinderella and the Prince lived happily ever after," said Karl as he just finished the Cinderella story. He put the book on the drawer beside the bed.
"Daddy, can I also have my fairytale life like Cinderella?" Risa asked, lying on her bed holding a big pink teddy. That was a gift from a childhood friend 3 years back when she was 5. "Yes, my child. You will also have a fairytale life just like Cinderella," he said with a smile.
"Then daddy, I want my family and my life like this for today and ever," she said happily, squeezing the teddy bear.
"Yes, you will have dear. But do you know why Cinderella was able to achieve her dreams?" asked Karl. Risa shook her head not knowing the answer to it.
Karl smiled and said "Do you know, before getting a happy life Cinderella had gone through many obstacles."

"Obstacles?" Risa said confused.
"When we desire for something, God test us to see if we deserve what we desire. And obstacles are his way to test us." Said Karl smiling "When you have a dream for something, there always comes a time when you would face difficulty. Maybe at that time you would be all alone by yourself, but to fulfill your dreams you need to fight those things. And then only you will able to win."

"But what if it is too much that one cannot able to cope with it?" Asked Risa.
"Then God will surely send you an angel to help you." He said smiling.
"Daddy?" Risa asked. "When will you come back?"
"Don't worry Risa, I would be home in 7 days." He said.
"I will miss you daddy." She said.
"I will miss you too, my angel." He said "Now sleep, and you need to rest."
"Good night, daddy." Said Risa smiling.
"Good night, Risa." Karl said and kissed her forehead, and went away closing the door behind him.

5 years later:

"Karl, so are you leaving today." Asked Blake.
"Yes, Risa don't know about it. I'm going to give her a surprise." Karl said, with a smile.
"It's nearly 5 years since I last saw her, when I came to meet you." Said Blake also with a smile. Karl and Blake are childhood best friends. After their college they lived in different places or should I say different countries. But they were in touch with each other. Since Karl wasn't able to meet Blake for years he decided to start a new project there. Risa was like a daughter to Blake and Jane. Blake has always expected a sweet little daughter like Risa but to have a child like Kai; one couldn't be more than happy. Like Risa, Kai was an ideal child. He was calm, quiet, and helpful but was more mature than this age. Risa and Kai are childhood best friends but they haven't seen each other after the age of five.

"Where is Kai? He told he would meet me before I left." He said to Blake.
"Yes, Kai is on his way." Blake said. Suddenly Blake's phone rang.
Blake excused himself and went to receive the call.
Few minutes later he came back.
"Bad news Karl. Kai said he won't be able to come. One of his friends is in the hospital and he had to go there. He said sorry." Said Blake with a sad look.
"Don't worry Blake. It's okay. That is more important. Anyway I'm really happy to meet him." He said smiling.
"Let's go. It's time for flight." Blake said.
And they both left for the airport.

In the Airport:

"Uncle Karl." Somebody shouted.
Karl and Blake looked back and saw Kai running toward them.
"Kai, what are you doing here. We thought you won't be coming." Karl said confused.
"I came to see you off." Said Kai said panting heavily, but the smile didn't left his lips.
Karl and Blake looked at each other and then smile.
"Excuse me sir. It's time for your flight." Said a hostess.
"Yes, I'm coming." He said.
"I really enjoyed staying with you. I don't have words to thank you." Said Karl.
"You don't need to thank us. After all you are my childhood best friend and also a part of this family." Blake said, with a smile. Karl just nodded returning the smile.
"Seem like I have to go. Bye Blake. Bye Kai." Said Karl
"Bye Uncle Karl." Said Kai.
"Bye Karl. I hope to meet you soon." Blake said.
And then Karl walked away.
