Not Just a Girl...

This poem is an abstract conversation between a girl and her inner self "me". Her inner self is trying to tell her that she is not just a girl but a "life" indeed. This poem depicts the tribulations a girl faces when her presence is not respected and her absence is not felt, but gives a positive message that every girl must be given her place and also, the evil practice of killing a female child must come to a stop.
I inhale and I exhale...
That means I live... isn't it?
My heart beats every second...
Sometimes even more than that... and I blink my eyes often...
Yes, that means I am alive... isn't it?
Out of joy 'she' cried!

No, you ain't.... something within her answered...
A tear made its way down her eye..
I can't accept this,
I know I am alive and I know my blood flows...
Yes, it does, not for your own body but to keep you alive...
To carry someone else's responsibility..
'She' bent...

I am not free,
Neither am I bold,
I know not what reality is,
I guess, in the market of rights,
I am sold...

Get up girl! Stand straight,
'Me' said...
You have nothing to surrender,
Neither are you paid...

Am I respected and am I the one people need?
Or shall my hidden suppression always lead?

I am hated and I am given away,
Dead, mum and cold I lay,
Is that what life has brought to me?
I guess it is what it has to be...

Your future is far beyond the concepts of bondage my dear,
You have your own legs and you need to bury every fear...
You can not only cry but also smile,
You have the ability to walk alone thousands of miles!

Then why am I categorized?
Why am I rated?
Am I not a unique life?
'She' debated...

"It's the 'system', 'me' said,
That can never change,
You need to prove your worth,
Wake up and show the world,
All you own is your priceless birth!

You can aim big and reach heights,
You can hold your head high and be 'me'...
You can only overpower the globe,
But freedom and existence you can surely see!

So wake up my dear,
'Cause you are not just a "girl",
But a "life" to 'me',
You have full right to live with pride,
If not anyone else,
You yourself can stand by your side!
