Not Everyone Can Live A Healthy Life - Poverty
Poverty is the condition or quality of being poor; indigence; need. It is the deficiency in necessary properties or desirable qualities, or in a specific quality, etc. It is the smallness in amount; scarcity; paucity.

Poverty is when you don’t have any money. Poverty is when you and your family are dying of hunger and thirst. Poverty is when there is no shelter to keep you dry when it rains. It is when you have poor health and are in desperate need of help. Poverty is when you have nothing but your family and the clothes on your back.

Poverty affects one half of the world’s population which includes nearly one third of those in South Asia and half of those in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Poverty is a global issue, occurring all throughout the world. Although people attempt at removing it from their lives, most of the time, they can’t. South Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa are two of the most common places for poverty. This is due to the fact that they are countries consisting of a large, growing population and there isn’t enough food, shelter, money etc, to share. These aren’t the only places with people suffering from poverty.

Other reasons for poverty are because someone might get fired, and then they don’t have enough money to pay for their house. They live on the street and their clothes get dirty and because they don’t look presentable they can’t get another job. Without the money, they suffer from hunger and thirst. This isn’t the only reason for poverty. Someone might get struck by a natural disaster. E.g., most people who survived the tsunami three years ago were suffering of poverty.

It is an important issue because it not only affects people physically; it can cause emotional and social damage too. They don’t have any friends and what friends they did have, they are probably ill like them, or dead.

Some believe that poverty is just when you don’t have any money, but that isn’t exactly true. The truth is that you’re poor to begin with, but then it affects your whole life. Your jobless, dying of hunger and thirst, you have no home, no shelter, and almost everything you once had is gone. These are the effects of poverty. Most people who suffer from poverty die from poverty. And all because you lost your job and have no money.

The effects of poverty can kill, so we ought to do something about the main thing; money.

‘Think globally, act locally,’ means to participate in some small way, and if everyone does the same, it can lead to something bigger, defeating the problem. In this case, the problem is poverty, and if you donate money, or give blankets and clothes to charity, you are participating. If more people follow your example, it would start making a difference.

People often think they can’t make a difference because they are only one person. But if they do one small thing, and another person follows by example, and another, and another, then gradually, it will come to make a difference. But if people don’t contribute to helping the world, then no one else will either, and nothing will happen. Nothing will change, because no one is doing anything about it.

You can act locally by saving up money and donating it to charity regularly. You could eat only once a day at dinner, like the Arabian’s when it’s near to Christmas. All of this is ways to contribute to the reduction of poverty. You could start campaigns or join some. You can start fundraisers and collect money to give to charity. Any of this could make a difference and would lead to the worldwide issue.

The World Bank although attempting to reduce the gap between rich and poor, is actually increasing it. You could write a letter to the World Bank, complaining of their unsuccessful plan.
