Nokia 5230: The Bad Outweighs the Good

Dipping to the Bad

For any new buyer of mobile phones, making a pros and cons list is a good way to judge whether a mobile phone is worth it. Unfortunately, for the Nokia 5230 the ‘pros and cons’ scale tips towards the cons. Not to say that this is particularly a bad phone, it is simply being outclassed or outperformed by other mobile phones out in the market today.

This mobile phone does have a few good parts to it but these are overshadowed by the fact that it is just too plain and simple to be considered special by anyone. Sometimes, being the worse only means you do not measure up and for this case, the Nokia 5230 certainly does not measure up to the heavy weights of the market.

The Pros

The major ‘pros’ of this smartphone concerns its social networking capabilities and its multimedia aspect. First, the focus of Nokia was to make social networking a main function of this phone. This led to the development of a feature that allows users to connect more quickly and more smoothly to the likes of MySpace and Facebook. This will certainly be appreciated by users, especially the younger ones.

Another ‘pro’ for the Nokia 5230 is its multimedia feature that not only plays a whole rage of different formats; its music player can be accessed on the front screen. This new feature will surely be a welcome development, especially those who listen to music on their mobile phones. This mobile phone also has a back cover that does not only come in plain black but a variety of colors that adds a level of uniqueness. With its document viewer (Excel files, Word documents, and PowerPoint presentations), this certainly is a good mobile phone; take note it is not a great one.

The Cons

For the Nokia 5230, it is the ‘cons’ that rule this judgment. The most obvious ‘con’ for this mobile phone is the fact that it does not support WiFi connections; something should be a staple in every smartphone released in the past years. It also has a substandard camera; a 2.0 megapixel camera that is far below par.

Apart from this, the major ‘con’ for this mobile phone is the fact that it cannot really be differentiated from other touchscreen phones. Yes, it does have faster access to Facebook and a home screen music player but apart from that, there is nothing else. Surely the people from Nokia are capable of releasing something more than the Nokia 5230, which is simply a mobile phone outclassed by competition; its ultimate ‘con.’
