Nokia X Series

At last Nokia are releasing 2 handsets that look very sleek, packed with functions and that promise not to be outdated in appearance for the next few years.
The 4th quarter of 2009 is the expected release time of Nokia’s X series. The X6 and the X3 will be on the market before Christmas and both are sure to make a huge slash. Now I’m not sure what the expected life expectancy of electrical goods such as mobile phones are, but I personally expect to have at least 3 or 4 years use from a purchased item.

At the moment I own a very old Sagem flip over. It has served me well for 4 years now, but I have to admit that for the last 8 months I have been wanting to change it. It has very limited functions and to be honest it wouldn’t be out of place at Cinderella’s wedding. So for the last 8 months, every weekend I have planned to shop a new phone. I frequent the shops and mooch around looking at the new handsets and reading all the new technology.

Unfortunately all was in vain. The major mobile phone producers seem to bring out a new model every week or every fortnight and to me they are all pretty similar. They either look nice with limited technology or are packed with technology, but as ugly as sin. But now at last I’m ready to commit. With what I have read on the internet and the pictures I have seen, Nokia has at last produced a model that I will purchase. The only decision left for me to make is which one I will buy : The Nokia X6 or the Nokia X3.

The Nokia X6 comes in 2 color combination of Red/Black and White/Blue with a 3.2" display screen. This sleek touch screen handset is being pitched in with a price tag of about £450. It is being promoted as a media phone and is a definite step up on the previous xpressmusic 5800. The X6 can cope with almost all major audio and visual formats, and has built in speakers or you can choose to use Bluetooth headphones. The non-expandable memory has been increased to 32 GB and now the in built camera comes with 5 megapixels, Carl Zeiss optics and a dual -LED flash. The Nokia X6 is also a 3G phone with tri-band UMTS and support for HSDPA downloads.

The Nokia X3 also comes in 2 color combination's of Red/Black and Blue/Silver with a 2.2" display screen. This slide handset is being priced at about £125.The music player on this phone copes with most major formats and one very nice touch is that the antenna is built into the handset so when listening to the FM radio you don’t need to plug in any headphones to get a signal. The camera on this phone is a basic 3.2 megapixel and the expandable memory is microSD. The X3 is a GSM handset and not a 3G which is a bit of a shame. And finally one other aspect of the X3 is that it is a green phone. Up to 80% of all the components can be recycled.

Before I make the final decision of which one to buy I will like to see them in the flesh. They are both highly sleek looking phones and will still look just as fine in 3 years time I think. I cant see them being outdated by newer released models on their looks. My preference for a phone however is buttons when dialing a number. Maybe I’m old fashioned but each to his/her own thing. And perhaps the most major influence of all is the price. I feel that the X6 is a pricey thing whilst the X6 is extremely well priced to be sold. Just now I would say I will be buying the X3, but perhaps that will change when they have been seen live. We shall see.
