Nokia 3500c: Why You Should Like Nokia Cellphones

I am not a brand slave. I like brands, ok, but I am not a brand slave. It doesn’t matter to me, whether I buy a branded jean or not, its all the cut, fitting and comfort that I get from that particular jean. I am not that inclined towards a design and look of anything that I buy too. The same applies to all electronic gadgets I have ever bought. There are only four things that I look into while buying electronic gadgets:

• The Features
• The Support
• The Quality
• The Freebies

Exactly in that order. That is the reason I had a stony ride in Motorolaville and was forced to take a huge leap of faith into Nokiastan. As I write this article, am listening to ‘Voulez Vous’ by ‘ABBA’ – the fifty third song on my playlist. Allow me to elaborate as to why I am going into the intricate details of my playlist.

A few months ago I bought the Motorola V3i, which had a reputation of being a hot phone and the ‘in’ thing. When I was shopping for it, the salesman was kind enough to tell me that the phone had no radio – a fact that did not bother me at that time.

After a few weeks of research, trial and error I learnt these factors about my prized Motorola V3i that made me cry each night to sleep:

Why I Hate Motorola:

The Great Motorola did not want us mere mortals to change the themes on the Motorola V3i. So, to install and use Motorola themes, you had to rely on the Internet underbelly to get shady software and install Motorola themes – which, Motorola said would void their warranty. You are breaking into the most prestigious of Operating Systems, dude, what else do you expect?

The Great Motorola also had this weird system in which we could record only one minute of video. Why? Are these cellphones strapped with some timed bombs that go off when we record one minute of video?

The Great Motorola thought that we were too much of an imbecile to actually decide on how much storage we needed. So it capped their song limit to fifty songs on their iTunes version of the Motorola V3i. So, whether you have a 256 MB SD card or a 512 MB card, the most number of songs you could store was thirty and fifty. 1 GB, did you say? Motorola has yet not woken up to 1 GB support. Yeah, that is correct, the Motorola V3i can support only cards up to 512 MB.

Why I tolerate Sony Ericsson:

Sony Ericsson has made a major comeback in the cellphone market. We should not however forget that they had to implement two of their best selling features into the cellphones to make them saleable: the MP3 Player and the Digicam: In the names of Walkman and Cybershot.

So, Sony Ericsson is indeed the epitome of high quality sound and crisp photos and videos, but at a cost that can be moderately termed as ‘prohibitive’. Also, the cost of the accessories is almost equal to half the cost of a brand new cellphone of another brand. But yes, if you have the proper budget in place, once you buy a Sony Ericsson, wild horses would not be able to drive you away from SonyEricssonland.

Finally, why I love Nokia:

Nokia cellphones have maybe just one defect – they are nowhere near Sony Ericsson in terms of design. They surely make it up via their robust offering of features. After my fracas with the Motorola V3i, I turned to Nokia and got the Nokia 3500c. Here are its features:

Mp3 Player
Radio

Oh, before I forget, it has the best voice clarity and network till date. Now, for the one major reason that makes Nokia the sweetheart of every cellphone freak: freely available free themes, ringtones and games.

There are at least thirty websites on the Internet that offer free themes, ringtones and games for almost every Nokia ever made. Though we may be a bit worried whether these themes will harm our phone, I have been using such themes for the past three (those glorious years when I had the Nokia 6630) years and nothing ever happened – except of course – the memory getting crammed with themes and me having to delete several beautiful themes for want of space.

And all this available at a good enough price. Those who are of the thought that ‘a cell phone should be a cell phone and we should buy a MP3 player or digicam if we want a digicam’ can give me the tenth of their fifteen credit cards for me to buy these two things with their credit cards.
