Nokia 2610 - Defining Simplicity
The Nokia 2610 is another release from the company's vast stable of handsets. We take a closer look at it to see if it merits your attention.
The Nokia 2610 features a very basic, traditional candybar design with a subtle black and gray casing. For such a classic styled phone, this mobile is actually rather small and light. The small color display screen works well for most usage, but the screen is easily smudged and often fades in sunlight. Besides trouble seeing the screen in bright light, the backlight only stays lit a couple seconds, making it difficult to use the phone in dim light as well.
The navigation keys and the keypad are very simple to use, responding well to touch, and they are easy to distinguish because of their raised design. The user interface of the 2610 is very friendly, making it easy for anyone to place a call. The manufacturer settings of the phone do not include a clear button, but the four-way navigation key can be designated for other purposes, including back functions. A major downfall of the 2610’s design is Nokia’s failure to include a volume control along the side of the phone. Ring tone volume, as well as the handset volume, must be adjusted with the navigation toggle.
A selection of ringtones are included with the 2610, and the phone is also capable of downloading MP3 ringtones. A fun option included with this mobile is the ability to create voice clips and use them as unique ringtones. The 2610 can also be used to download wallpapers and screensavers to personalize your phone. One game, Coin Flip, is included and more can be downloaded. Unfortunately, the quality of games and other applications isn’t so great with the 2610’s limited display capabilities.
The 2610 features a very basic address book that holds up to 300 contacts, a voice recorder, and several simple productivity tools, including a calendar, an expense manager, and an unit converter. The phone also supports both text and multimedia messaging, and offers a vibrate mode for silent alerts to incoming calls. The Nokia 2610 offers decent quality for voice calls and the speakerphone is clear as long as you are close to the handset.
Overall, the 2610 is a great mobile phone for first time mobile users and those who want an affordable phone that is easy to use, with only basic calling and messaging features. The Nokia 2610 doesn’t offer a camera or any type of music player like most modern mobiles. It is a simple phone with basic features, in an attractive classic design.
