This poem was written in 2007. It talks about a relationship between father and daughter. Note - This is a prose poem, so it's not meant to rhyme.
We're 12 years into the future,
And you're not the person I thought.
Maybe you changed,
Or maybe it's me whose woken up to who you always were.

I realize now that the love that was there doesn't always exist.
Like the light at the end of the tunnel,
I can't base my life working on reaching the end,
On reaching for you.

You can't protect me from the truth that is you,
Even though I hoped my heart was wrong.

I can't explain
All you ever were to me.
And I'm not going to be put in the middle,
But it's hard to avoid when I can't stand up to you,
Because then I have a greater chance of loosing.

You confuse me when you play with my emotions,
Saying you love me and then doing your best to disregard me as your own.
Adopting a new family that doesn't included me.
Pushed to a side and forgotten.

I never asked you to stay,
That was a mistake.
But I wasn't the one to ask you to leave,
And I think that's what you forgot.

You can see it in my eyes,
That are streaming with tears,
That being 5 and having someone leave
Doesn't always work out the way you plan.
Although you were still there,
Your not anymore.

You fell short of that place reserved in my heart.
You missed out on being remembered.
