Lets talk about why Atkins fails, and what kind of low carb high protein diets can work for you now, and in the long run.

Atkins diet works on what's basically the principle of starvation. It is recommended to eat an extraordinarily low amount of carbs in order to send the body into a state of "Ketosis" - Skipping the science, ketosis means your body quickly breaks down various tissues in order to keep you kicking.

The weight loss is rapid - but ironically, fat isn't the main tissue lost. Major losses of water weight and muscle mass will not only leave you feeling fatigued, but is counter productive to weight loss. Lean muscle mass burns more calories per pound than any other tissue - As you lose it, your natural resting calorie burn will plummet. Once you're off a minimal-carb diet, the weight will comes back immediately and leave you bloated and frustrated.

Low Carb, High protein isn't bad in principal - But you shouldn't exaggerate it. It's best to eat carbs earlier in the day and for breakfast, since your body can easily burn it throughout the day. Protein with every meal will help you retain the lean muscle mass you already have, to keep your resting calorie burn at its peak. Minimizing or eliminating carbs 1/3 of the day - in the late evening - is the way to go. The best way to burn weight fast is by cutting calories by several hundred by LOWERING carbohydrates and all but eliminating refined sugars, but all day elimination is not the way to go.
