Night's Sun - Chapter 9
I hope you guys like it.
*Drifting*
I walked to my first class today mystified. What do the dreams mean? Why hadn't I seen him today? I mean I don't want too but still. Do Jessica and the man somehow know each other? If so, how? Why does the man want me dead? Why does he want to kill me? What had I done to deserve this fortune? I sighed. I would never get the answers I needed because there was no one to answer the questions I had. If there was, then who was it? I sighed again. Life is complicated and unfair...completely unfair.
I walked to my seat and began to think. I was questioning the last couple of days that had passed. After a couple of minutes, I began to feel light-headed. Get a hold of your self Tim, I chanted repeatedly. It felt like something was making me worry, making me scared. I was becoming such a wimp.
My self-persuasion failed because I completely blanked out, I didn't notice when the teacher came in and called the class to order, everything went black and I began to float. It felt like I was in a large warm ocean and I was drifting. I was drifting away from the surface, away from the shore, away from reality.

When I woke up, I felt sheets around me and something cold on my forehead. I realized that it was cold, extremely cold, and began trembling.
"Timmy, are you okay?" A soft female voice asked. My eyes began to open slowly. "Tim," the girl sighed in relief, and I soon realized it was Alice.
Alice? What was she doing here? I froze, my eyes were wide open, all my shivering had ceased and my breathing turned erratic. "Tim," she called alarmed, shaking my frozen arm. She said something else but I could not concentrate enough to hear her because I was in deep thought.
What was I going to tell her? How was I going to get her to believe me? Then something else occurred to me. How long had I been out? What am I going to tell her? I'll just improvise I decided a moment later and the trembling began again. My eyes relaxed and my breathing returned to regular.
It was quiet in the room then, and only Alice was there. Her face was contorted in concern and had the expression of one in deep thought lips pursed, brows furrowed, eyes down staring at me. After a moment of intense silence, she sighed. I turned away from her, waiting for her to begin.
"Tim, what's wrong? I know something has happened or something is happening." She spoke in a very stern voice. It had been a very long time since she had spoken to me in any form of authority or concern. "So don't just tell me 'I uh...uh n-n-nothing'," she said, imitating my inept stuttering and lying, "Because I know you're lying. Tim, listen to me," she ordered because I had closed my eyes and began to ignore her. "I could help you," she continued. "All you have to do is tell me what's wrong." I shuddered at the thought of my older sister 'helping' me with my issues. Not actually helping, I thought wryly.
"Tim," she said in a surprisingly comforting soft voice, "You can trust me. I'm your sister and... I want you to know that... I'm always going to be here for you. Okay?" She half-smiled then sighed. "Even if I don't act like it," she murmured a moment later. I laughed bleakly and then sighed.
That's just fantastic, I thought sarcastically; suspicion had boiled over. "I know that." I said in a low voice. "But here's the thing Alice, I don't know what's happened or what is happening, okay? Trust me this once," I winced and my voice sounded choked. "But I think that it would better if I kept it to myself..."
She bent down and hugged me fiercely. "Tim," she said in a strange voice and I sighed. "What did you do?"
"I don't know." I whispered and sighed heavily. "I don't know." I repeated, emphasizing each word. We stayed there for a while until the nurse came in. Then Alice stood up; her face blazing with determination. I grimaced at her questionably and she nodded solemnly.
Unexpected
On the way home from school I saw him again, and surprisingly, he was in the forest staring at me as I walked. I was extremely surprised to see that he was not angry, but slightly awed. He kept on staring at me and I looked way, attempting at obliviousness. Alice, who kept shooting glances in my direction every couple of seconds, noticed my pre-occupation and looked for the object of my distraction. I panicked and looked the same way, and became relieved because he was gone.
"Tim," Alice began in a low voice. "What...?" She paused and looked down at me, biting her lips.
"Talk," I encouraged.
She seemed to relax as I spoke. "What were you...? Who were you staring at just a moment ago?" She asked intrigued, her eyes narrowing.
"No one," I lied. Dang, I thought angrily, she is really going to be watching me.
"That's a lie," she laughed.
I chuckled. "Yeah it is." I responded.
"Then who?" She pressed casually. I sensed that the casualness was to distract her curiosity but I subconsciously ignored it.
"It was just that guy that..." I cut off mid-sentence and froze.
"Just a 'guy' you say?" She asked, raising an eyebrow. I pressed my lips together and shook my head. "C'mon Tim, talk to me. Please." She begged.
Her concern disarmed me and I told the unwilling truth again. "I don't know why I'm afraid," I whispered. "I don't know him or the t-" I cut off again. It was not because I caught myself; no it was not because of that. It was because something hit me on the top of my head, and I knew how it had gotten there.
As the object hit my head something occurred to me: no one was to know. I was not to tell any one about what has happened between me and that guy. I was not to tell anyone about Jessica. If I told anyone I would surely die. I began to tremble: my lips chattering and my body shaking.
"Tim...What is wrong with you? Are you okay? Dang it, this is really killing me and getting on my nerves. Tim I-"
"This is killing you Alice?" I asked angrily. "Dang, I could die any given moment and no one would ever freaking know," I exploded, and then, after a few minutes of cooling down, began shivering again. "Alice I'm so sorry," I apologized. "I'm just under so much stress that it's killing me and I can't do anything about it," I sighed in aggravation. So long of this torture was taking its turn on me.
"It's ok Tim; I wouldn't bug you about it anymore. I didn't realize it was so serious or dangerous for you," she murmured, eyes down, brows furrowing; looking sad and dejected.
"Alice I'm... I'm really sorry." I apologized earnestly." I didn't mean to go off on you like that. Actually...I didn't mean to go off on you at all. I truly really appreciate your help and concern, it's something I haven't seen in a while and I like it. Thanks." I grinned at her and she beamed sheepishly.
We began walking again and I followed after her. After a while I began to wonder where we were going and confused by her direction, I asked "Where we going Al?"
She looked over at me then looked away, smiling slightly. "We're going to get Claire," she murmured in a low voice, her eyes roaming the forest. Her expression reminded me of him and my eyes began to roam also. I didn't find anything so I relaxed. I shrugged and kept on walking.
As I was about to forget my worries, he walked back out into my view. But again, he wasn't angry, and he wasn't staring at me like I thought he would be, but it looked like he was staring at... at Alice. He looked completely dazed; eyes bright, mouth open and smiling crookedly. Why is he looking at her like that?
Alice's eyes cut to mine the same time mine did to hers, so she caught the confused horror on my face. Her face became contorted in concern.
"Tim what's...why is?" She began, only to cut off again. Trying not to upset me again, I suppose. "What's wrong?" She finally finished. Unable to answer, I glanced in the direction of the strange boy and was surprised to notice he was still there staring at her; looking tense and hurt. Alice looked away in the same direction that I did.
All the concern and worry drained from her face, leaving only wonder and incredulousness. I followed the direction of her eye and was furious to realize that she was staring at him also. She almost had the same expression on her face, but she wasn't smiling, her face was bright, her eyes staring. Then she blinked and I saw that he was gone. A slow smile began to form on her face, and then she sighed, biting her lips.
