Nightmare
This woman haunted my dreams for three nights, during the span of two weeks.
Part 1
I was standing in the lobby of my brand new school, a huge staircase before, brightly lit and full of bustling students. I dislike huge crowds so I wondered down a particularly quiet hall and case to an open door that was dark on the other side. It was strange because the entire first floor was brightly lit. I walked through the door and it was a stairwell. Dark and narrow. I happily walked up those stairs and finally I reached the second floor. To my right was the school hallway, lined with lockers, students running into each other, completely unaware of my presence.
To my left, it became darker and there stood a pair of dusty double doors and directly in front of the doors was a mannequin’s bust. She was a beautiful Native American woman but something about her creeped me out so I hurriedly went up the stairs again to the third floor. The halls of the third floor were slightly darker and a bit emptier than the first and second floors. I looked to my left again and the woman's bust was there again but no double doors behind her.
She was staring at me.
My heart jumped and a sense of dread came upon me. I quickly looked away and ran up to the final fourth floor. This floor was as dark as the stairwell and hardly anyone was there. Again to my left, there she was! Staring at me! Smiling...
I ran down the dark halls of the fourth floor until I reached the safety and brightness of the main staircase, flowing with students.
Part 2
Again I was here in this school and again I went up that dark and narrow staircase. Again the woman was there. I finally worked up the courage to approach her and I decided to banish this evil spirit who was haunting the school - who was haunting me. I changed the mannequin; she became me with blue hair. As I stepped away from the mannequin she looked up at me and ever so slowly she smiled. An evilness lurking in her eyes. I hurriedly ran down that dark fourth floor and once again bathed in the brightness and comfort of that main staircase.
Part 3
Once again I was at this school and once again I went up that particular staircase. She was there. She stared and smiled at me, an evil emanated from her in violent waves. I hardly looked at her, hoping to ignore her from my mind but she lingered on the edges of my consciousness. When I began briskly walking down the main staircase a big man approached me and grabbed my arm.
"Where were you?! Why didn't you come back? Where did you go?!!"
"I was never there," I replied, "What are you talking about?"
"No you were there!" He insisted, "Why did you leave?"
Trying to explain to him that I wasn't there to begin with and his persistence grew to irritate me. I started walking off again when a little child approached me and started yelling something. Already irritated I snapped at him, asking what the hell he was talking about.
"There's a woman! And he's a girl! And blue hair! And she there! And she's looking! She's looking! With blue hair!"
I finally interrupted him. "Yes I know she's there! She's everywhere! She's me! She's you! She just won’t go away!!"
The child grew quiet and suddenly all noise was drowned from the school and the boy looked up slowly and smiled, his eyes had changed somehow. And with a quiet confidence he said, "I know. I won’t ever leave."
The woman had possessed him! She could travel now. It became loud in the halls again and I yelled for the big man to follow me. I knew something was going to happen. This time the main staircase wasn’t safe, I had to find somewhere that would protect me and the one I was with at least.
I ran down the staircase and down to the first floor. What was normally brightly lit and vibrant with activity was oddly quiet and vacant. Suddenly all the people disappeared but the noise was loud in my ears. I ran into one of the classrooms and started pushing desks out of the way in an attempt to create a safe haven. I looked behind me and the man was gone. Desperately I ran out into the hallway and it was suddenly dark, a sense of foreboding and dread washed over me. I ran back into the classroom and it too was dark.
‘He’s here!’ I thought. I glanced down onto the floor and there was the man I was trying to protect. He was dead; a large pool of blood spread out from beneath him, contaminating and possessing all that was around. I rushed out into the hallway and it went silent again. Two other bodies littered the floor, blood everywhere, splattering the walls.
I walked out into the lobby and looked around, feeling helpless and terrified but oddly silent. I saw his shadow dashing across the hallways. I sank to my knees in helpless despair and covered
my eyes.
"Why?!" I cried out, "Why can’t you just kill me? Why must you taunt me?!!"
The air was still as I heaved dry sobs.
His voice in my ear whispered. "It’s fun."
And with that, I woke up.
