Richie was briefly hospitalized on Friday after she fell ill on the set of The Simple Life Friday. Richie was examined by a doctor on the set and then was taken to the local hospital where she received treatment. Richie was given intravenous fluids for 15 minutes before being released from the hospital. Her rep confirmed the incident and said, "Nicole is home resting and will return to work this evening. We are proud of the weight that Nicole is gaining and her focus on her health."

In October it was announced that Richie was seeking help in gaining weight. Her rep claimed that she was physically unable to gain weight and denied rumors that she suffered from anorexia or bulimia. Her rep said in October, "She is working with a team of doctors and specialists whose focus is nutrition. It is important to Nicole that she achieves this goal in a healthy way as this is not a treatment for an eating disorder." She has reportedly been slowly putting on weight since then and a friend said, "She wants to prove she’s trying to change."

Richie was arrested in December after being spotted driving the wrong way on a Burbank freeway. When cops arrived on the scene they found her in her car, parked facing the correct direction in the carpool lane. Richie was alone in the car and talking on her cell phone. She reportedly admitted to the officers that she had smoked marijuana and taken Vicodin before getting behind the wheel of her car. It was also recently reported that Courtney Love said on her Website that there was " a big pile of white powder" in the bathroom at Paris Hilton’s birthday bash. Jerry Silverman, the head of the Foundation for Jewish Camping, is reportedly reconsidering Hilton and Richie’s duty as camp counselors on the next season of The Simple Life. Silverman said, "Counselors are trained, recruited, and tested. We take [it] very seriously." Just doesn’t seem as if Richie takes anything too seriously…
