Newly Published Book: Laboring to Love an Abusive Mate
New book: Twenty-one-year old college student suffers abuse at the hands of a lover ten years older. She tells her true life story of how she struggled with whether to stay and help her abuser or let him go.
Laboring to Love an Abusive Mate, a diary of a young woman who has to make the decision to stay or go. This book is based on the true-life story of Author, Nicholl McGuire, a 21-year-old college student in 1996. She has everything going for her until she meets a man who turns her world completely upside down! This book has been published by Lulu.com
Nicholl records her abusive nine-month experience at the hands of a man ten years older. Her roller coaster ride of emotions provides valuable insight on the struggles abused women face when making a decision to help or escape their abusers. This meditation journal is creatively told in a series of poems with self-analysis questions to read, reflect and respond. Journey into the mind of a young educated woman who never thought being in a physically abusive relationship could happen to her.
This book provides valuable insight on evaluating whether your mate has physically abusive tendencies, helps women make a decision to stay or leave the relationship, and blesses those who are on the road to healing. When asked what gave her the inspiration to write this book, she credits the women around her who also went through similar circumstances. She said she felt that the only way she could be of any assistance to anyone was to be open and honest about her life. "I have not lived the perfect life that I had planned while attending college. I didn't think that I would ever be in a situation where I would allow someone to hurt me, but I was, and just as I got myself in the situation, I had to find the strength to get myself out."
Nicholl's book writing style she describes as "realism with a creative twist" meaning her poetry takes on everyday situations and presents them in the most honest approach in poetic form. Most of her work deals with lovers, family, mentor types of relationships. Some of her poetry can be compared to Aesop Fables where at the end of each storytelling poem a lesson or a thought is to be learned. Nicholl says each time she writes, her "goal is to initially touch the readers’ emotions to make them feel like I know this person or I can relate because I am that person."
Nicholl’s book is available as a printed paperback book or may be downloaded at http://stores.lulu.com/nichollmcguire. Besides poetry, Nicholl enjoys writing various articles about relationships, saving time and money, workplace issues, parenting challenges and many more. Nicholl is a published poet and Freelance Writer. With over 15 years experience in print journalism, she is helping people improve their relationships one article and one blog at a time, visit http://www.myspace.com/howtobooks
