New Years Resolutions- Have You Broken Yours Yet?
NLP & Hypnotherapy
Have you woken up with one serious hangover and vowed never to drink like that again? Well you’re not alone, it’s happened to the best of us. The sick feeling, head spinning and the dry throat taught me a very valuable lesson never to drink irresponsibly again. Why was I putting my poor body through this? It was like putting unleaded petrol into a diesel car, that car is not going anywhere without the right type of fuel. To say I was feeling rough was an understatement, I could not even be bothered to apply my make up, which I would normally do with great passion and precision as I’m a woman who loves to look good. I began to think why do we women go through this procedure of applying makeup? Do we do it to avoid pain or to gain pleasure? Is it to make ourselves feel more attractive to others, or are we worried that someone might say ‘Oh my God what happened to you?’ Or do we just enjoy the process? I doubt it
Now I was faced with making a decision, I could continue the day in this mode or I could learn from the experience. I chose the latter. I then began to make a list of all the things in my life that make me feel good and all the things that I’m grateful for. Instantly my state changed, I rejoined the day after a hypnosis session to recharge and energise. As human beings, language is one of the most powerful tools we have for shaping information and action for achieving results. The language we use has a massive effect on whether we achieve certain goals or miss the target.
I don’t make New Year resolutions but set myself goals. I think goals sound much better and are best described as a journey of achievement. You’ve probably heard the saying ‘Resolutions are made to be broken.’ People make resolutions every year and then break them just as quickly. This has become a pattern in society that gets repeated each year. Why do we wait until the New Year to make changes in our lives? The common ones are losing weight, getting out of debt, stop drinking, stop smoking, and get a new job or relationship.
Using the skills of NLP you can eliminate negative thoughts and replace them with positive empowering alternatives. For more information visit www.innerfree.co.uk Specialists in Hypnotherapy and NLP in Birmingham and the West Midlands.
Below is some effective tools relating to you achieving your goals.
What do you want?
It’s amazing how often people haven't even thought about it before.
Usually people will say what they don't want. While this can be useful information, it's good to state your goals in the positive (it is important to remember that the brain cannot process negatives, ie you can't not think of a blue chair). And once you have discovered what you do want, the next step is to find out how you’ll know you have got it - your evidence of success. In relation to an aspect of your life, career, health, relationships, financial ask yourself "What do I want?"
How will you know you've got it?
When you have a goal, it's important to know what your evidence of success will be. This question gets you to do a future mind-read. "I want to be rich." How will you know you're rich? "I will have a BMW 650i Convertible" You can get the unconscious more involved by asking this: What will you see, hear and feel when you've got what you want? The more vividly a goal is imagined, the more the unconscious can help achieve it. In relation to the 'goal' ask yourself "How will I know I've got it?" You might even like to add "What will I see, hear and feel when I've got what I want?"
Where, when and with whom do you want (what you want)?
It's important to put goals in a context. Sometimes people say they want something all the time and everywhere, but they haven't thought it through. In relation to the 'goal', ask yourself "Where, when and with whom do you want this?" These are some of the questions used in NLP to establish what's called a "well-formed outcome". When an outcome is "well-formed" you're more likely to get it.
