New Top Secret Chevy Hybrid Caught on Film
The top secret Chevy plug-in hybrid has been caught on film almost two weeks before its national unveiling.

Chevrolet officials were in for a surprise when footage of their new plug-in hybrid, the Volt, showed up online. The unveiling wasn’t scheduled to take place for a couple more weeks but an enterprising voyeur brought the image to the public earlier than the company had planned.
The video was supposedly shot by a "spy" from the fan website of the upcoming movie sequel, "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen." The fans are apparently eager to view the new car since it mirrors the theme of the movie. In fact, it has been rumored that the Volt is expected to appear in the film.
In both movies, vehicles manufactured by Chevrolet turn into good robots called the Autobots. Naturally, the job of the Autobots is to defend the galaxy from their arch enemies, the Decepticons.
The video in question shows a production model of the Volt driving around the parking lot at Chevrolet. The featured car is a purplish blue color with the name "Volt" clearly visible on the back of the car. Spectators say that there has been some fine tuning to the model since the design concept was introduced at the 2007 North American International Auto Show. There has been no comment on why there were significant changes to the original.
General Motors took a big risk when they decided to manufacture the Volt. The release of the plug-in hybrid will be the first from a major automaker. This hybrid is different from the rest in that it runs solely on electrically generated power. The problem with electric cars has always been the short range, which is approximately 40 miles. While there is a small gasoline engine on board, its only purpose is to create more electricity during longer trips. The car is not equipped to use gasoline as a fuel.
It was to be expected that General Motors would not confirm that the car shown in the video is the production model of the Volt. The official unveiling of the electric vehicle is scheduled to take place on September 16, 2008 at a celebration of the carmaker’s centennial anniversary. Some say that the car in the video must be the Volt since the new electric car is scheduled to appear in the upcoming movie next summer. After all, some muse, it would make no sense to make two different electric cars.
