BLURB...
Tori Rainford’s in love.
But that’s no new thing.
Tori’s been in love with Eddie for over a year now; how could she not be? Eddie is a Chick Lit’s dream romantic hero. He’s tall, blonde, clever and handsome. Yet Eddie hasn’t seemed to notice Tori's feelings, much to her heartbreak.
But someone else is preventing Tori from attracting the attention of her love interest.
Tori seems to be spending more time with the new guy Caesar arguing; rather than pursuing her Prince Charming Eddie.
Tori and Caesar both wish the other would just go away, but neither seems to be getting their wish. Sparks soon start to fly between the pair; but are they the signs of a fight or of a romance brewing…?
CHAPTER 1
‘Why didn’t the alarm go off, Em?’ I ask my flat mate Emily as I run into her room, grabbing a hair brush and a clean jumper.
Emily drags her duvet down and says ‘Sorry, I didn’t have to get up so forgot to set it.’
‘I am going to be so late! I’m taking the car. I’ll see you later.’
I have never been late for class before in my life. It’s just not the ‘done’ thing for me. I’m 20 for goodness sake. Well I guess I’m not your average student. I like to follow the rules and kind of admire the teachers. I don’t go out partying every dark hour possible and much prefer to relax at home and maybe read? Oh gosh, I do sound really dull, don’t I? Well I’m not, well maybe I am, but that’s me. But now if I don’t get to class on time, I am going to be so embarrassed.
9.01am. It’s like torture isn’t it? One minute! One silly minute and I’m late!
I open the door to my class and my tutor is standing there in shock. ‘Are you ok, Victoria?’
I sigh ‘I am so sorry I am late, I just…’
My tutor nods and says ‘Well it’s very unlike you, but come in.’ As I step into the class room, I’m barged out the way by some idiot who can’t wait in line ‘Excuse me, I need to find Debbie Long’s Lit class.’
‘Well I’m Debbie so you’re in the right place. You’re the new student we were expecting, aren’t you?’
He nods.
The idiot then swans into the class without another word and then has the liberty to take my seat. It’s the first time I get a good look at this monster and notice he’s scruffy. He looks like he’s just got out of bed with that…messy hair. His jeans are ripped and his top has paint splashes on it with a jacket over the top. He hardly looks presentable. He’s quite tall. 6ftish and is wearing a beanie over his messy waves. He’s obviously just woken up because he still has slight stubble on his jaw line.
‘Excuse me,’ I start politely ‘You’re actually in my seat.’ I smile down at him, hoping this will help.
The guy looks up and rests his head on his head ‘Am I?’
I nod. Maybe he’s not so bad ‘Yes.’ I say rather delighted that he’s going to move.
‘Well why weren’t you in it then?’ He questions.
Huh? ‘Because I…because I… because I was…late.’ Ugh that word makes me feel sick.
‘You snooze, you lose. Now would you mind, you’re blocking my view.’
‘Of what? Your next conquest?’ I throw back.
He looks up and says with a smirk ‘You’ve got a dirty mind. But actually, I want to see the tutor, you know? That’s why I came to the lesson. But I might not bother coming back if the whole class is like you.’
‘EXCUSE ME!’ I say in disbelief.
‘Oh my God, seriously chick, move out of the way and sit somewhere else.’ He says angrily looking around me to see Debbie.
‘That’s MY seat and I am NOT a chick!’
‘Victoria, are you ok?’ Debbie asks me.
I turn around jaw dropped and say ‘But-, he-.’
‘Come and sit at the front’
‘Best place for you. She can keep an eye on the naughty latecomer.’ He says taking his notebook and pen out of his bag.
‘You were late too!’ I say helplessly.
‘Victoria, come on. Stop wasting more time.’ Debbie says.
‘Tut, tut.’ He hisses. ‘But I do love a naughty school girl.’
I turn around and want to slap the living daylights out of that, that, rude, obnoxious, full of himself idiot who treats people, well me like shit. How dare he?
I’m in a bad mood now.
At the end of the lecture, I walk out angrily and then head back to my flat. I live outside the campus since I’m not in my first year, but second.
But then I see Eddie.
Ahh Eddie! Have I told you I love Eddie? I mean it’s proper love. On the first day of Uni last year, I saw him and fell for him instantly. He’s perfect. He does medicine; so really brainy and has the cutest smile. He’s handsome too. Swept back blonde hair and blue crystal eyes. He really is dreamy. And I’ve loved him ever since I’ve met him.
He just hasn’t noticed yet. We’re friends, well really good friends. It’s not like I don’t know him, I do. We kitchen shared last year and became really good friends. I just think he’s a bit shy at the moment and doesn’t want to ruin our friendship. I don’t see him much anymore. Only when we get together for a big meal with everyone, but since moving out, I’m seeing less and less of him every day. Which breaks my heart.
It really does.
He is always on my mind and it hurts we’re not together. But I’m a traditionalist and if a guy wants you, he will tell you and will do anything possible for you. But I’m ok with waiting. Well I have to be because I am. But it will all be worth it when we’re together in the future! Oh the thought of it…
‘Eddie!’ I call out.
Eddie turns around and waves. Oh bless him. He’s walking off in the opposite direction though. Hmm, maybe he’s busy.
‘Been let down by that preppy tosser?’ That same smooth voice says. I look behind me and the new guy in standing there watching me.
‘Don’t be so rude! You don’t even know him.’ I say fiercely defending Eddie. No one is mean about Eddie; especially not around me.
‘And I don’t want to. He thinks he’s the dog’s bullocks just cos he’s wearing a white coat.’
He laughs to himself and looks at me for a response. He’s enjoying angering me.
‘No one’s insulting you.’ I reply calmly. I will not give in. I will not give in.
‘I bet you are.’ He says edging closer to me.
‘I’ve never said a bad thing about you.’
‘Verbally, no, mentally, I know you’re planning my death.’
‘How can I plan your death if I don’t know your name?’
‘Do you want to know my name?’ He says slightly smiling.
‘Well I would like to put a name to the guy I am self naming ‘Twat’.’
‘Ouch, my, my you are a feisty one. Is that because I beat you? Chick, forget it, everyone has to lose some time.’
‘You pushed in front of me!’ I can’t help it. I can’t remain calm for any longer. He is pissing me off now.
‘Why were you taking so long then?’
‘Just go away, you’re irritating me, Twat.’ I snipe.
He stands in front of me and says ‘The feeling is fucking mutual, Chick.’
‘It’s VICTORIA!’ I yell.
He comes back over and says directly to my face, eerily searching my eyes ‘And it’s CAESAR, if you must know.’
And then he walks off carrying a battered satchel to his side and a leather jacket in his other arm. Men. I hate them. Well maybe just him.
As I get back into my little car, I start the engine and hear Little Boots Remedy song come on. Hmm, what an interesting song. I start humming along and bobbing my head and occasionally sing into the wing mirror and laugh to myself. I do love singing.
As I pull out of the car park and start to drive along, I have to come to an emergency halt when the new guy-Caesar (stupid name) leisurely walks out into the road. Does he want to get run over?
As I let him cross, I pull my window down and he shouts ‘Are you trying to run me over now just because I got to class quicker than you?’ He leans down to mu window and waits for my reply.
If only…
‘You were the one who walked out into the middle of the road. You should look where you’re going.’
‘And you should beware of pedestrians, stupid drivers.’
‘Excuse me?’ I feel like I might get out and have a full blown argument with him in a minute.
Restrain Victoria. Think of tranquillity. Think of peace…
‘Well you all are. People who drive think they’re all so cool and stuff and push pedestrians and people on bikes and motor bikers around just because they’re in the bigger lump of metal.’
‘Are you blaming me for all the drivers in the world?’
‘You’re all the same.’
‘That is such a ridiculous generalization to make! It’s like me saying my favorite colour is pink and yours is blue. It’s not true.’
‘But I like blue; so I’m right.’ He smirks.
‘No you’re not! What are you getting at anyway?’
‘Watch where you’re going, Chick before you piss me off even more or kill me. It’s my first day at this place for fuck’s sake and I don’t need to be nearly run over by you.’
‘Is there any need to swear?’
‘When talking to you there is every need to be explicit.’ He adjusts his beanie over his waves and slouches slightly as I’m not finished talking to him.
‘You’re unbelievable.’ I say, shaking my head.
‘Why thank you.’ He sounds pleased with himself.
‘Just quit it!’
‘Can’t you handle my wit?’
‘You wish you were witty.’
‘I must have been granted my wish then. See ya Chick and watch where you’re driving. Not everyone’s as forgiving as me.’ He smiles and walks off in the opposite direction.
Oh my goodness, seriously, I hate him.
I hate him within hours of knowing him.
Please let tomorrow be a better day.
Or I might be tempted to go slightly over the 30 mph speed limit in driving distance for the stupid Twat who is already pushing my boundaries of being calm and composed.
