New Mesothelioma Lawsuits in Madison County, Illinois

Ronald Brust, an Illinois man who was diagnosed with lung cancer on June 24, 2008, has filed an asbestos-related lawsuit naming 74 defendant corporations. The lawsuit was filed on August 26 in the Madison County Circuit Court.

Brust worked between 1961 and 2003 as a plasterer, drywall installer, and jet engine mechanic at several locations in Missouri and Illinois. At some point during his career, Brust alleges he was exposed to asbestos and developed lung cancer as a result.

Brust is claiming the asbestos exposure he experienced should have been anticipated and prevented by the defendants. In addition, he claims the lung cancer he developed has not only disabled him, but has prevented him from working, made him liable for medical expenses, and has caused mental and physical pain.

The five-count lawsuit asks for at least $100,000 in compensatory damages, and at least $100,000 in punitive and exemplary damages.

In another asbestos-related lawsuit, Helen Troy from Massachusetts has filed on behalf of her late husband, Robert Troy Sr., who recently passed away from mesothelioma. The lawsuit was filed on August 26 in the Madison County Circuit Court.

During the 1940s, Robert Troy served as a chief electrician’s mate in the United States Navy in both Florida and Illinois. From 1946 to 1990, Troy worked in various occupations in Massachusetts.

Tragically, many veterans of the U.S. Navy are at risk of asbestos exposure due to the use of large amounts of asbestos in Navy vessels. Risk of asbestos exposure on these vessels was especially present during World War II.

Helen Troy’s five-count lawsuit alleges her husband’s asbestos exposure should have been prevented by the defendants, and that Troy suffered considerable mental and physical pain due to pleural mesothelioma. The lawsuit asks for at least $100,000 in compensatory damages in addition to punitive damages.

The amount of asbestos lawsuits in Madison County is expected to rise as the rate of patients diagnosed with such diseases increases.
