New Beginnings Finale: Part 2/2
Alexis is on her way to finally tell Tyler how she feels. Will this be the end of their love or a new beginning?
This is it, the finale, hope you guys enjoy the ending. Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who stayed with me through this story, it was my first so your comments really helped and really kept me going. Let me know what you guys think!***
The apartment was cold, dark and empty when she finally stepped into it. She dropped her bag and ran her fingers through her hair. What was she doing here? What would she say to him when he finally walked through that door? What if they had been wrong and he didn't want anything to do with her? Then she remembered his phone call and it gave her courage. She began to walk around the apartment, apart from the standard furniture there was little to say that someone was actually living here. The fridge was empty and. she felt a jolt of pain at the thought that he wasn't taking care of himself. Could this really be a result of her? Did she dare hope that he loved her that much? She decided to have a quick shower and then dressed again she sat down on the couch. It was so quiet how did he live here like this in the dark? The last thought she had before she drifted off to sleep was of him walking through the door.
Tyler's pov
He had found it slightly odd that his secretary had insisted he leave the office early. Mrs Danvers had assured him that he had no standing appointments and that he wasn't needed at all in the office. All the same, he had insisted on staying an extra hour until she came into the office her hands placed firmly on her waist. Tyler had given up and had said goodnight. It was eight o clock by the time he let himself into his apartment. He immediately knew that something was different, for one thing he hadn't remembered opening the curtains. There was also the soft scent of something rich and almost hypnotic in the air. He would know that scent anywhere...his heart began to race as he contemplated whether he had finally lost it. Was he so far gone that his sub-conscious desire and need for her had conjured up an illusion of her here in his apartment.
No, he shook his head, it was impossible she was thousands of miles away; she was back home enjoying the fruits of her labor. He had spoken to her just that morning. Still...he could smell her, he walked further into the apartment and almost tripped over the bag on the floor, as he lifted it to examine it he saw the sleeping form on the couch. He stilled and then he started shaking from the shock. He lowered himself onto the couch beside the one she slept on and loosened his tie. Alexis, his mind wanted to explode from the very sight of her. She was magnificent, beautiful beyond compare and she was inches from his touch all he had to do was reach out and he could sweep away that stray strand of hair that had fallen onto her face. He settled himself into the couch and watched her waiting for her to wake up.
Alexis shifted, and then she remembered where she was, she slowly opened her eyes. The apartment was still dark but she instantly saw him. He moved and then the lamplight on the side table illuminated the room. She slowly rose into a sitting position "hello" she whispered, he didn't respond only stared. He looked so tired, he was slightly thinner as well, but god he was still so beautiful she wanted to cry. "You must be wondering what I'm doing here" still nothing, she shifted uncomfortably feeling that courage she had had evaporate "maybe this was mistake, maybe I should go"
"Don't you dare move" he ordered
"Tyler" and he sighed as if hearing her say his name had lifted some invisible burden
"You came" he finally said "why?" he looked at her and there was a desperation in his eyes
"Well it's a funny story really you'll laugh" he continued to stare at her his eyes never wavering from her face "Your family they bought me this ticket you see, they have it in their heads that you need to come home" she had chickened out, she had come all this way and her nerves had gotten the better of her, she wanted to kick herself.
"And they sent you?" he interrupted, his voice barely audible "why?
"Well they thought that you might listen to me I guess"
"Is that it then, you came all this way to hand deliver me to my family" He rose and started pacing in front of her "Well no thank you, as you can see I'm doing perfectly fine"
"No you're not"
"What"
"I said you're not doing fine"
"And who told you that, my mother?"
"I can see for myself," she murmured rising too
He laughed bitterly "and I suppose that gives you some sort of pleasure, well take a good hard look"
"No I don't get any pleasure seeing you like this" she closed her eyes "The truth is, the truth is" she opened her eyes "I came here for you, not for them, I came here because I've been a fool"
"What are you saying?"
"Please forgive me," she all but begged
He dropped his head "forgiveness? So that's what this is about" when he looked up his face had lost all its color "Don't worry Alexis I forgive you, I forgave you the moment you walked out of my life...don't you know..." he began to move towards her and then stopped.
"This is coming out all wrong" she wrung her hands in distress
"Don't be upset Alexis, I understand and I forgive you, you need to know that you can live your life freely, I would never think a bad thought about you, I would never hold it against you."
"Oh shut up you idiot," she screamed "Can't you see, are you so blind?" her chest heaved, "from that moment in the bar all those years ago, I have loved you, I always will" He was very still and then he began to move towards her but she stepped back "no wait let me finish" he obliged her but the nerve in his jaw leapt out as his emotions got the better of him. "I was wrong all this time, it wasn't you I had to worry about it was me, I was the problem and I ruined everything" he tried to close the distance between them but she shook her head moving away, she felt the tears begin to well up in her eyes "I think I had loved you for so long that when I finally had you I couldn't believe it and then Sarah..."
"Sarah" he cursed "I should have known she had something to do with this"
"No don't, it's not her fault I was stupid to believe anything she said"
"You should have talked to me" he stated tonelessly "but you let everyone else tell you what you should feel and how you should act...why couldn't you just love me and let me love you?"
"I was afraid," she admitted, "But I'm not afraid anymore" she looked at him determinedly "I know how much I love you and I know I don't want to live without you...so please forgive me"
Understanding finally dawned on him and a slow smile spread across his face "Alexis, my love if you knew how much I love you I think you might run in the opposite direction" she shivered "because you should know, I will never let you go, ever...so you better not have any second thoughts because you're mine"
"No second thoughts" she assured him breathlessly
"I don't actually care if you do have second thoughts, I'm going to be selfish from now onwards, I've always given you what you wanted and now I'm finally taking what I want"
"And what would that be" she lifted her chin in a final show of defiance
"Oh love" he had finally closed the distance between them and his arms crushed her to him in a vice like grip, she gasped as the air was forced out of her lungs "let's not have an argument where I'm forced to prove you wrong"
"I'd love to see you try"
"I'll do better than try" he clasped her chin in his hand "I hope you enjoyed your sleep because I have feeling you're not going to be sleeping tonight or the following night, come to think about it I think you're going to have to give up sleeping all together"
"I love you Tyler Maitland"
"Alexis, love" he said before he finally lowered his mouth onto hers.
Epilogue
"I don't want to wear that dress," The little black haired, grey-eyed girl yelled
Alexis sighed "Christella" she said sternly "I refuse to have an argument about this"
The girl looked doubtfully at her, then she opened her mouth and Alexis covered her ears "Daddy" she shrieked and began stamping her little feet. Alexis heard the familiar footsteps and looked up expectantly as Tyler appeared in the doorway of the bedroom
He looked at the scene in his daughter's bedroom and burst out laughing. Alexis didn't blame him there must have been hundreds of outfits strewn across the floor "This is what I get for marrying a designer" he held out his hands as their daughter leapt into his arms and buried her face in his chest. At only five years old Christella already had her father wrapped around her little finger. "What seems to be the problem here?"
"I don't want to wear the white dress, I want to wear the one I'm wearing, the one grandma Evelyn bought me"
"And why shouldn't you wear this dress" He looked at Alexis who shrugged "you wear any dress you want Christella love"
"Yeah don't listen to your mom, what does she know about fashion," Sebastian laughed as he entered the room. Christella stretched out her arms to him, he obliged by hauling her out of Tyler's arms
"Who would have thought that two men of the world would be brought to their knees by a five year old" she rolled her eyes
"Don't you listen to what your mother says" Sebastian soothed his niece "come on your aunt Maria and cousins are dying to see you" as he turned away Christella stuck out her tongue at Alexis and grinned in triumph.
Alexis shook her head in wonderment as Tyler wrapped his arms around her, she shoved him away "Oh no you can't have the best of both worlds" she teased
"Is that so" he pulled her to him and she sighed as he kissed her "Alexis" he breathed into her hair "what say you and me get lost for a couple of hours?"
"No we can't!" she gasped as he hoisted her up and she was forced to wrap her legs around him for support
"And why not?"
"Because we have guests waiting downstairs," she told him trying to think rationally as he trailed hot kisses down her neck.
"Ah" he murmured "Well in that case lets send them off early, better yet let me get rid of them right now"
They had been married for little over five years now and she was still frightened by the magnitude of his love. He had been right all those years ago when he said he said that she would be frightened by just how much he loved her. Only now she reveled in it, she didn't think she could have loved Tyler any more than she already did but he had proven her wrong yet again and he had given her Christella. Their beautiful daughter who was more like her father everyday.
"Fine you win" he told her as he placed down on floor, he grabbed her hand as she attempted to move passed him "for now" a hidden meaning in his words as his eyes continued to devour her.
She shivered knowing that come that night he would have her right where he wanted her. They went downstairs and took their place amongst their guests. "There you two are" Evelyn hugged her daughter in law "Alexis when are you going to give me another beautiful granddaughter"
"Or grandson" Daniel Maitland piped up
"Don't you already have enough" Sebastian moaned, and they looked around at the room almost bursting at the seams with the children running around.
"Well son, you already have four kids, and then theirs Bianca and Link's two and then Christella" she paused "I think 10 grandchildren would be far more better than seven don't you" They all laughed "I'm serious" she chimed again. Alexis looked around at the faces of her family and she knew for sure that this was what contentment felt like.
That night as she lay in his arms, she thought about what Evelyn had said, as if reading her mind Tyler broke the silence "I want more than three more children" he told her
She turned to face him "oh really and just who is going to give you all those children" he growled as he dragged her on top of him
"You my love only you, I want a whole army of little Alexis's running around"
She laughed, "I'm not sure I can manage that"
"I'll take whatever you'll give me" he clasped her face between his hands
"Why do you love me so much?"
The question threw him, "If you have to ask" he stopped and then grinned, "for one thing you know just how to please me" he switched positions rolling on top of her
"I'm being serious you moron"
He considered her in the darkness of their room, "Because Alexis love, how could I not. You are the most caring, beautiful person I have been blessed with knowing. You never gave up on me and try as might I couldn't keep you out of my mind let alone my heart, all those years ago when you walked out of my life, I never really told you how losing you broke me. I think it was then that I really figured out just how much I needed you for my own wellbeing"
"Selfish" she teased
"Extremely" he murmured
"Sometimes it scares me"
"What does love?"
"You, this" she looked around
He stilled "this is not the time for second thoughts, I told you once before, you're mine Alexis Maitland, especially now that I have you right where I want you"
'Don't worry I'm never letting you go either, but its still scary isn't it"
"I think I know what you mean, but don't worry we're meant to be this happy"
She wrapped her arms around his neck "Enough talking, you talk to much, how about you show me just how much you love me"
"I don't think we have enough time," he laughed as she yanked his head down, locking her lips with his. Tyler was finally wrong about one thing she thought they did have enough time; they had the rest of their lives to love each other.
