Network Security - Why Securing Networks is Important ?

Purchasing something over the internet is much more convenient and often has benefits you can't get shopping stores. But people are shying away from purchasing things over the internet due to the growing concern over the safety of personal information transmitted over the internet. The e-commerce world is now in a shadow of growing identity theft reports, increasing security breaches and a lack of privacy issue.
Companies can spend years on strategic marketing strategies in order to gain the trust of happy online customers. However, within just minutes all the years of work can be destroyed by a hacker exploiting just a small vulnerability or flaw on a website that allows them to access sensitive customer information. Businesses attempt to fight this by adding more features and complex tools to their network. However, as businesses do this the hackers also increase their tools that help them breaks into the website. Therefore, the best security a company can have against network attacks is to perform an ongoing analysis of their network security. Often large business will hire expert network consulting companies to map out strategic hardening and security plans. So just what is network security?

Each company is likely to have a slightly different definition of what network security really means. If a company isn't dealing with a lot of sensitive information then all they may need to feel safe is a simple anti-virus protection and a firewall. However, in most cases the companies who feel this is enough protection would be wrong. A hacker who truly wants to get into a network can't be stopped by even the most powerful anti-virus programs and firewalls surrounding a network. Rather the best definition of network security is to have completely confidence in the structure of the network and the security measures that are used to protect the company and any private information.

Network security is continually updating in order to find the best way to keep unauthorized individuals from hacking into or gaining access to a businesses network. Although prevention is only a part of the work that network security does. Network security also focuses on detecting whether hackers have actually accessed the system or if they have tried to access the system. Once a hacker invades the network then the job of network security is to determine which areas of the network were accessed and how much damage was done. Often hackers will attempt to attack and exploit components. The ongoing process of network security is the only way for businesses to ensure that their network is always protected and has the least chance of being breached by an outside source.
