Natural Insect Repellents for Ants
Before we get into the whole deal about getting rid of ants, we must understand that an ant infestation happens because you haven't kept your place clean. And since prevention is better than cure, make sure that you maintain a clean home. Sweep and swab regularly, clear out the garbage without letting it accumulate, keep the kitchen clean by cleaning all the counter tops, the sink and platform with bleach or any other cleaning product meant for this purpose. When you do all this you'll notice that the activity of the ants has lessened considerably. Then follow it up with some of the methods on getting rid of ants that are mentioned below.
Cucumber Peels: Nothing does it better than cucumber peels. Bitter cucumber peels when spread around areas that are frequented by ants, have known to deter their activity. Many bugs, including ants are known to be put off by the strong smell.
Cloves: Cloves have a pretty distinct, strong aroma that is known to act as a strong deterrent for ants. Mix some cloves with sugar (don't worry, the smell won't stick), leave some in the corners of the kitchen counters and platform and watch the ants retreat.
Tea Bags: Tea bags of any kind (mint flavor have been known to work best) when placed at the entry points of the ants colony have known to disperse the ants. Try crushing live mint leaves and doing the same if tea bags are not available.
Boric Acid: Need a great homemade ant killer? Use some bread and mix it with jelly or jam. Then add boric acid to this mixture and make tiny rolls of the same. Place these around all the places that the ants frequent to get rid of them.
Garlic: The strong odor of garlic is enough to drive away the ants. Just crush some with water and place small pieces along the places that the ants frequent most. This will get your house smelling a little, so check if you're OK with that first. But all said and done this is one of the best ways to get rid of ants in the house.
Mixed Recipe: Mix citrus oil, cayenne pepper, cinnamon and lemon juice and make into a paste and then line the entry point of the ants colony.
Vinegar: Vinegar is an excellent, multipurpose recipe that can be used as a natural insecticide for ants. All one needs to do is transfer it into an old spray bottle and use it over the live ants. Done. Nothing quite like this home remedy.
Liquid Soap: Any kind of liquid soap works wonders as a natural pesticide for ants. Just dilute some in a water and spray onto the ants when you witness them.
The natural insecticides for ants that are mentioned above will ensure that all the ants are gotten duly rid of. Use these to reclaim your home for your own and live a bug free life. All the best!
