Natural Dog Repellent

If you want to protect your vegetation from dogs, try some dog repellent to dissuade the critters from damaging or destroying your garden.
Mail men were the first to use dog repellent and they used it quiet effectively against ferocious dogs and managed to deliver the mail. They basically used pepper spray to deal with dogs, although the spray is quite harmless, it might burn the dogs throat if sprayed on its face. There are some natural dog repellent techniques which are quite harmless that could be used to ward off dogs. Human brain is dominated by the visual cortex, while the dog's brain is dominated by the olfactory cortex, which is the sense of smell.

Homeowners like gardening and they also like to protect their plants, but many a time a dog might unintentionally damage these plants. Rubbing Alcohol
Isopropyl alcohol is the best repellent for dogs and it is also quite safe to use, actually it can be used as a disinfectant. Dogs cannot stand the smell of rubbing alcohol, and they will stay away from an area which emanates this smell. It is a great way to keep dogs of your favorite furniture, just mix it with you cleaning liquid. If you are planning to use it in your garden, soak cotton balls in rubbing alcohol and keep them around your garden. The dogs will not be harmed by this, the odor will keep them away from the selected area.

Chili Pepper
One of the most widely used forms of dog repellent techniques is the use of chili pepper. It causes irritation to dogs, especially to their sensitive noses, the capsicum in the pepper also causes irritation to their eyes and skin. A dog will avoid unpleasant places and if you sprinkle some chill powder around your garden the dog will avoid it. If you want to use this remedy inside the house, keep a couple of whole chilies in a dish in the area where you do not want any dogs.

Citrus Fruits
Oranges and Lemons have a scent that has no ill effects on humans, but when it comes to dogs, this scent is a natural repellent. Dogs cannot stand the scent of citrus fruits, and thus these fruits can used as homemade dog repellents in your garden or inside the house. Cut a few pieces and put them around your garden to ward off dogs, in the house squeeze the juice and mix it with water and clean the area.

Vinegar
Another strong-smelling scent to keep dogs away is that of vinegar, dogs detest this scent. Soak cotton balls in vinegar and leave them lying on a piece of stone or wood so that the vinegar does not seep into the ground. If you pour vinegar directly on the soil, it might poison the roots of the plants and kill them. One more technique is to dip pieces of cloth in vinegar and dry them in the sun, you can then leave these lying around the areas where you don't want dogs.

You can also use ammonia as dog repellent, and it is also quite safe for use, it will not harm the dog in any way. The thing about ammonia is that it should only be used for outdoor needs only, avoid using it inside the house, because the odor can be unbearable for humans. Using a natural dog repellent is a safe way to keep dogs off your property. When used, these remedies act as invisible boundaries which the dogs will not cross.
