Nasal Snoring
One of the most common sleep disorders is nasal snoring. In some cases this condition is so extreme that it disrupts a person's sleep cycle completely. This article will shed some light on this widespread condition.

There are 2 categories into which it can be placed, and both of these have their own reasons and their own specific snoring remedies. Firstly there is the 'small or collapsing nostrils' condition, and secondly there is the 'nasal stuffiness'. The first condition prevents one from breathing through the nose while asleep, and thus the person is forced to breathe through the mouth. This occurs due to the collapsing nature of the nostrils, thus making it impossible for the individual to breathe through the nose. The noise of the air hitting the back of the throat is what causes the snoring here.
Nasal stuffiness causes snoring because there is something stuck in the nasal passages that prevents the air from passing through. Again, the person is forced to breathe through the mouth, and this causes snoring. Both conditions have some specific cures, and these cures are effective for some people and ineffective for others.
Common Remedies
Before getting down to finding some useful remedies to stop snoring, one should try and determine what is causing the snoring exactly. Is it because the nostrils collapse while sleeping, or is it due to some form of congestion in the nasal passages. Once this source has been determined, the individual can start working towards getting rid of the problem.
There are many kinds of nasal strips that are available in the market, and these need to be attached to the nostrils before sleeping. These prevent the nostrils from collapsing, and thus enable a person to breathe through the nose while sleeping. Along with these strips, you can even make use of nasal dilators, which need to be placed inside the nostrils. These also prevent the nostrils from collapsing while sleeping.
The only way to clear nasal stuffiness or congestion is by inhaling steam before sleeping. This will clear up the nasal passages and enable the individual to breathe through the nose. In most cases though, this is only a temporary cure, and the problem will return after a few hours each night. One of the solutions is to inhale steam 2-4 times during the day, and if this also does not work, then you should just visit a doctor for help and advice.
Some people even resort to using aids like an anti snoring chin strap, or even tape. This helps keep the mouth shut while sleeping, and thus forces the person to breathe through the nose only. Snoring occurs as a direct result of a person breathing through the mouth while asleep, and thus these methods are useful for some people. Be warned though, that for some people these methods can be dangerous as well. If the nose or nasal passage is heavily blocked, strapping or taping the chin may even cause the person to choke while sleeping.
In some cases it may be happening due to a congenital defect or physical abnormality. Polyps are small grape like growths that may affect your nasal passage. Visiting a doctor will solve this problem. In other cases, an allergic reaction may be causing nasal snoring. You must find the cause of this allergy, and keep away from it in the future. Adopting some of the best ways to stop snoring will also prove useful.
Some other causes of snoring are as follows, and you can adopt preventive or curative measures for each of these factors.
- Obesity
- Heavy smoking
- Sleeping position
- Sleep apnea
- Pregnancy
- Obstruction by tongue
- Alcohol and sedatives
