Napa Valley
FROM AUTHOR OF CHILDHOOD SWEETHEARTS...Amanda "Mandy" Lakeson is a normal L.A. girl who is now moving to Napa Valley. She is hesitant at first but soon begins to fall in love with it and with a certain someone...

Why I have to go is beyond me but I have to go. I cannot survive on my own and my family is moving so I should be too. I mean we are a family. From the gorgeous city of Los Angeles to the rustic countryside of Napa Valley...that's where we are heading. My father's parents live there, my grandparents, and they own a vineyard. We are living with them because their house is big enough. It isn't a mansion but it is a decent five bedroom house. I am an only child so I will get my own room. My parents will have a room of their own too. My grandparents have their own room of course and my older cousin lives with them so he gets one too and it's probably the biggest. So that leaves one room and it's the guest room I guess. I can only imagine what this summer is going to be like. Can you say boring?
"Ma! (Silence)...Ma! ... (more silence)...mom, are you up there?!?" I call from the kitchen of the soon to be "old' house. I have so many memories here...it's sad.
"WHAT! Amanda I am sorry but you have got to come up here if you want to talk to me because I am trying to pack last minute things and I cannot hear you" she says from the top of the staircase.
I walk upstairs and see my mom packing up the linen closet. Why would she need to bring sheets and towels with her?
"Um mom doesn't grandma have enough of that stuff?" I ask
"Honey I am giving them to the church if you must know. Now what's up?"
"When and what time are we actually moving?" I ask
"I told you over and over again Amanda...tomorrow 8 AM sharp" my mom says
"Mom why are you so cranky today? Where is dad?"
"I am sorry honey I am just really stressed out and I need to get these things done before tomorrow. Your father is out picking up some more boxes for me"
"Do you need any help?" I ask trying to be a good daughter
"No thank you it's ok. Today is your last day in L.A. go spend it with your friends, say your goodbyes, here is $100. Go buy something nice, maybe a cute dress or something. Grandma and grandpa are having people over the first day so I am sure you want to make a good impression"
"Oh thanks mom but I got it...I have money" I say but take it anyway
The truth is that yes I am going to miss my friends here in L.A. but it isn't going to be that bad. I do need a change. Napa Valley? Not what I had in mind, but hey I will give it a try. I might even grow to love it there.
I am out shopping with my three girlfriends when my cell phone rings. It is my cousin Danny.
"Danny! Hi how are you?" I say when I answer
"Hey Mandy. I am good...how is my little cousin doing? Are you packing your whole life?" he says
"Oh gosh shut up I am not. I am good though, thanks. I cannot wait to see you I haven't seen you in forever! The only way I know what you look like is from Facebook" I say and laugh
"Oh same here. I have been showing all my friends your page" he jokes
"Oh you mean all your farm friends?"
"They are normal trust me" he laughs
"K well I think you better watch out for me. All you guys are 21. I am only 17"
"Ya but you will be 18 this summer. We will celebrate don't worry" he says
"Danny I love you and I love the sound of that. Now I have to go because I am shopping for the first night dinner" I tell him
"Of course you are shopping. Have fun and I will see you tomorrow. Don't buy anything too dressy...in all seriousness" he says
"Really? Ok casual it is. See you tomorrow say hi to the grandparents. Bye" I say and hang up
Back to shopping for dressy...I mean casual!
