Nantucket Yacht Club Offers Sailing Lessons to Kids
The Nantucket Yacht Club has a Learn to Sail program designed to teach children how to sail and race.
Nantucket Massachusetts isn’t just an island for adults to get away from the hustle and bustle of nearby big cities. There are fun and engaging activities for children as well. One in particular is offered by the Nantucket Yacht Club and has classes for kids 7 and older. There is also child beach, a beach perfect for kids and so called for its playgrounds and gentle surf.
When Nantucket is mentioned most think of an island that’s geared more for adults. Nantucket is an island with colonial era architecture and styling with a classical with a more cultured ambiance. Nantucket and nearby Martha’s Vineyard aren’t thought of in the same way as other vacation islands such as the Virgin Islands, the Caribbean or even Hawaii. Size and location have a lot to do with that, but there’s also the notion that Nantucket attracts a more sophisticated taste. Let it be known that Nantucket offers something for everyone, even children.
The Nantucket Yacht Club has a Learn to Sail program that teaches numerous sailing classes to children between the ages of 7 and 18. They also teach classes for adults in basic sailing and cruising. The Nantucket Yacht Club has a long standing tradition of promoting sailing as a sport and is proud to offer sailing and racing classes to young kids as well as to adults. Classes are offered during the summer from June to August. There are programs for beginners as well as for intermediate and advanced sailors. There are options for the older kids to take classes in either cruising or racing. Those who participate in these classes are first chosen by a panel of coaches and they get to experience a myriad of regattas during the course of the class. The Nantucket Yacht Club brings talented, experienced and proven coaches to teach the courses.
The Nantucket Yacht Club sponsors weekly races on Saturdays and Sundays throughout the summer. The big event is the Nantucket Yacht Club’s annual Race Week. The Nantucket Yacht Club’s Race Week brings some of the world’s best sailors and racing boats. Kids participating in the sailing classes benefit from race week with special guest coaches. Some of Nantucket Yacht Club’s Race Week participants will join in and help coach some of the classes and offer their expertise, knowledge and experience. Also there will are special invitational regattas during race week that select participants will be chose to compete in.

The Nantucket Yacht Club designed Race Week to benefit a non profit organization called Nantucket Community Sailing. Nantucket Community Sailing provides affordable sailing and racing lessons to the community in addition to affordable access to both large and small sailing and racing boats.
For those with children who are too young for the Nantucket Yacht Club classes, there’s child beach, a beach perfect for younger children. Child beach has a playground, is in the harbor so the surf is gentle and safe. Nantucket Island just an island meant for adults. There are activities for kids like learning how to sail or hanging out at child beach. Local organizations like the Nantucket Yacht Club encourage children to participate and offer programs specifically for children and teens.
