Nail Extensions

Long, beautiful, well maintained nails are the definition of elegance in a woman. But not all of us are blessed with it. Nail extensions are our answer and an amazing solution to get those, Oh! so coveted long nails!
I always envied those women with amazing nails, colored, long and manicured. I for one, can never manage having long nails, they always chip off! I found my solution in nail extensions. The easiest way to get your nails to look like all those women you always look at and wish for those beautiful nails. It is a really good option for people who can't help biting their nails, also those who have noticed a yellowing of their nails due continuous use of color. A convenient option for those on the run, with very little spare time to maintain nails.

What are Nail Extensions?

These are artificial nails which are fixed on top of natural ones. When the base of these natural nails grow, the gap is filled by the extensions. These add the length to your nails and of course, gives them an elegant look. The treatment may make use of adhesives or heat. The extensions can be temporary or semi-permanent, which last for several weeks. However, semi-permanent ones do require some amount of care or occasional treatments. Depending on your need, you can choose from various types of extensions discussed below.

Types Available

Acrylic
These are the most commonly used and preferred by women. A variety of acrylic nails are available in the market which can be applied in salons or at home. It makes use of the simple adhesive technique. Once you get these, there is a variety of acrylic art that you could try.

Gel
These are a better choice than their acrylic counterparts in terms of quality and longevity, most importantly they are odorless. These do not chip off easily. Gel nails look more natural and appealing than acrylic ones. These too can be applied at home and at the salon. It is recommended though that these extension must be applied with professional help. This is because it sometimes may require a UV treatment which is not safe to do at home. But when you consider acrylic nails vs gel nails, gel ones are the clear winners!

Silk Wrap
These are for people who want strong nails. The adhesive or glue is applied to silk, fabric, and placed on the nail, then given a proper shape and are smoothened using a buffer. These extensions look more natural as they bend and have a flexibility. However you must remember that silk wraps are thinner than the other two types. You have to take care that these are applied on clean, dirt free nails, because they are very thin. It is not advisable for people who are very active.

If you check out the price list, nail extensions may vary from $5 to $100. It depends on the type you choose and also whether you choose to do it at home or take help from a technician. More than the price its maintaining these nails which is of utmost importance. Make sure you moisturize your cuticles and keep them clean. A visit to the salon regularly will also keep your nails healthy and make your extensions last longer.

Once these extensions wear out, it's time to get them off. Be sure you know all about it. Taking help from a technician is the safe option. Removing silk wrap nails in a salon is crucial, as these are very thin and you may end up damaging your cuticles trying to do it on your own. Also, the procedure may require more than one person.

Nail extensions are a boon for women like you and me who cannot manage growing them, but if you cannot take care of them, well, just stick to what is natural and see that you get a regular manicure done to maintain them.
