Mysticalia: The Dark Adventure Chapter 2
A compromise for those of you who voted. Victoria's (Tori's) best friend makes an appearance... Please comment. I could really use any advice you are willing to give.
"Tori! Tori, wait up!" I hear a familiar deep baritone calling after me as I run, but I don't have time to stop for anyone or anything. If the palace guard catches up with me, who knows what they'll do. Luckily for me, I can run faster than all eighteen of them put together. Suddenly, I feel myself falling, as my feet catch on something embedded deep within the underbrush of the forest. At least I am pretty sure that it was something on the forest floor. Then again, it may have only been my own two feet exhausted from running. (I know, I have never heard of someone who had any amount of vampire in them being klutzy either, yet I am not graceful in the least.) I honestly have no sense of how long I have been trying to escape, and I don't intend to be captured now.
Strong arms surround me in a matter of seconds, pulling me upright. I begin to kick and struggle against the arms, but to no avail. Then I slowly begin to recognize the scent. The breath that I have been holding within my chest exits with a big whoosh; it is only Chance Westerly. "You can sure run fast when you set your mind to it, although I can't blame you. I'd run too if a whole damn army was chasing after me! What did you do to piss them off?" the words flow smoothly from his perfect lips.
"That was a stupid question if I have ever heard one!" the exclamation bursts forth before I can think of a proper response. Now, I know that I shouldn't have spoken so harshly, but I was being quite honest. Chance knows everything about me; we have been best friends for so many years that I have lost count. And when I say that he knows everything about me, I mean every detail. He knows when I got my first kiss, the disaster that disrupted my first date, and how old I was when I started my period. Not that I actually shared this information with him; he just has this uncanny ability to read my mind. Anyway, the point is that Chance most definitely already knows why I am on the run from the members of my own guard, whose sole purpose in life is to protect me.
Chance lets go of me, and I gracefully land on my feet, which was definitely a first. Immediately, I begin to run.
"What's the hurry? Don't you think they will find you sooner or later? Why don't you come back to my place? At least you'll stay safe there for a while," he demands gruffly as he matches my stride.
"I can't," I reply instantaneously, "Besides, they won't find me where I am going because as far as they know it doesn't exist." "Then I am coming with you," his manner was decided and left no room for objections. We ran about a mile farther. Satisfaction begins to make its way to the surface as the abandoned palace that I discovered as I child comes into my view.
I pointed to the castle. Unlike many commoners, I know Chance can see the object to which I am referring. "Wow," he breathes, and I know that he is just as mesmerized as I was the first time I found it.
Ahead of us stands a palace far too majestic to be from our time. The walls hold a slight silver tint that shimmers as the sun begins to set. Even though I am sure that this is an ancient building, it remains intact. My guess is that someone enchanted the castle for safekeeping and to preserve it from deterioration. I know from experience that the rooms inside are much larger than the standard size for our kingdom; three or four of my rooms from my home could fit into one inside the fixtures spacious halls...
