Part VI

The sun was shining brightly through Marguerite’s bedroom window and she turned towards it this morning instead of running for cover. She sat up and stretched her arms up in a satisfied yawn. She was in a great mood as she often was when a case began to unfold as she desired.
She dressed quickly in a navy pants with gold trim and a matching jacket that had gold braiding on the shoulders and collar. She grabbed a blue corduroy hat that she pinned on, gave her self a once over, and nodded with approval.
Cook had outdone herself this morning Marguerite thought as she piled her plate high with sausages, delicate croissants, and her favorite kind of puffed pastry filled with a delicious vanilla crème.
Much later, after she was suitably stuffed she made her way through the busy streets to Edward’s hotel to discuss her newly discovered information.
She was waiting for him again in the cafe, casually watching the sun dance on and off the stained glass window when she smelled a combination of cinnamon and rich sandalwood. She turned and met Edward’s smiling eyes.
"Marguerite" he grabbed her hand and placed a feather soft kiss on her palm "it feels like an eternity since I’ve seen you."
She laughed, "Hardly. Do have a seat please. I have some information I wanted to give you."
He slid into the chair across from her at the small bistro table causing their knees to brush together awkwardly.
"I have located Simon. Well not physically, but I have found one of his haunts and will be locating him tonight."
"You’re speaking vaguely, what do you mean."

She briefly filled him in on how she went to Simon’s last residence and found out from his landlady that he had been back and was writing large sums on Bank of New Orleans notes, the most recent of which he wrote to his favorite bordello and that the Madame of said institution was a sharp business woman and for a nominal fee, which he would be charged for, told her that Simon always came on Friday nights and loved red haired women and for another miniscule fee, which he would be charged for, she was letting Marguerite pretend to work their for a night in order to trap the fugitive.
His eyes widened only slightly at the last sentence but she could tell from the twinkle in his eye that he was quite impressed.
"Wonderful news. I knew you were to be trusted to handle this case."
"Thank you" she tried not to blush with pride. "So, with that said I must go and get my costume for tonight and meet with my friend at the police station."
"Police, what for?"
"Well, you surely don’t expect me to apprehend Simon on my own and the matter of his theft against you is also a factor."
"I see, you are right I would just hate for this matter to be made public, it may make my business reputation look blemished if I became involved with such person."
"Oh, don’t worry about that. I am dear friends with the Commissioner General, Pierre Rivery. He is a good man and has helped me more times than I can count. He is also very discreet and won’t involve anyone else if necessary. He probably will just come by his self tonight so no fear, you will have not worry about the public."
"Like I said Marguerite, you are wonderful. You think of it all."
"One must in my profession. Well, I must be off."
