Mysterious Mister Part IX, A Historical Mystery Set in 19th Century New Orleans
Marguerite Hasting is a tough as nails detective who wears men's clothes, cusses like a sailor, smokes, and enjoys a night of drunken revelry with the best of 'em. When it comes to solving mysteries she's the best. Watch her solve a case that takes us us all over the globe and the mystery that surrounds her life. Please let me know what you think!! The rest of the story will continue to come, don't worry!
The door swung open. The Commissioner, assessing the situation quickly fired one shot into Edward’s shoulder causing him to fall backward in pain.
Marguerite released her long held breath and lowered herself back on the bed in an attempt to slow her racing heartbeat.
Marguerite found out that Edward had gone to the Comissioner’s office and had hit him over the head. He had awoken with a horrible headache but otherwise was fine.
They put Edward into a dirty little cell with only the rats to keep him company. After she gave her statement she made he way back home in a hired carriage and fell into bed, exhausted and confused. She thought over what he had said a hundred times and it hurt more than words could express. She always knew she had been abandoned, but she had hoped for a noble reason, like two young lovers who hoped for a better life for their child than they could provide. However, her parents were just too greedy and wanted some meaningless title more than they wanted her. She fell into a fitful sleep, waking cranky and sore in the morning.
She went to the office to tell Artula of the incident. Artula was aghast and fretted over Marguerite for a second before telling her that she knew all along that there was something suspicious about that man. Marguertie smiled and said she would be out for the rest of the day.
She wandered aimlessly for hours, staring at people and horses. She peered out onto the river and wondered how long it would take to get to England .
England she thought, I should go there.
She walked with purpose now back to her house with a new sense of self and a new adventure on the horizon. She put her hand on her stomach, it felt as is a thousand butterflies were dancing inside, not in nervousness of course, but in pure anticipation.
