MY STORY Chapter 12
A weight is lifted off of Sky's shoulders.... It's kinda boring, but stick with me. :)
CHAPTER TWELVE
I gaped at both of them. Erik looked at me with a blank expression, but comprehension shown through despite his efforts.
"You knew?" I whispered, then turned on him, yelling, "You knew? And you didn’t tell me?"
He grabbed me by my shoulders and shook me once, twice, three times, shaking sense into me. "Gramma told me a bedtime story, when I was little, about a girl who would avenge the victims of the Dark One." He whispered. "That’s it."
I nodded, numb, and turned back, looking at Erik’s grandmother. She nodded slowly, and smiled. She motioned for me to come closer and I did. She put her hands on my shoulders and her expression changed. I felt pressure at my mental walls, and they started to shatter. Not strong enough. Not strong enough. I tried to build them back but I was too slow.
Images started racking my brain. A girl from Egypt, coming here because she was an orphaned warrior: murdered. A girl from New York, there because of her street smarts: raped and murdered. A girl from Alaska, there because she was a genius: raped and murdered. The list went on. I saw their stories and their faces, they all got jumbled up, but the meaning was still there. They were the restless dead, and I would avenge them. They ripped at my memory of Felix and what he’d done to me. I felt anger in their presence. They ripped at it, tore it to shreds. I felt nothing. Emptiness.
Determination set in me, and I turned to Erik’s grandmother from where I’d fallen. She nodded, eyes changing with each of the girls, sending their own message to me. Blue. Green. Brown. All colors the same, yet every one of them different. Tons of girls. Tons of them.
Erik shuffled behind me, clearly seeing what was happening, and I turned to him. He flinched at my expression, but I smiled softly. He relaxed, and I walked to him, putting a hand on his shoulder.
"Go to the hall for a second. I need a minute with Fiona." He was taken aback at the fact that I knew her name, but walked off anyway.
"What’s the plan?" I asked when he left.
"Well," she started, "all you have to do is kill him. How you do so is your choice. But you have to get him in this room before doing the deed." She said darkly, but from her tone, I knew this would be very important.
I nodded. She smiled, and turned to the armoire beside her. "But you need something else to wear. That dress won’t do."
She pulled out a leather catsuit, and handed it to me. "This is from me in my…glory days. I figured I used to be about your size." I looked at it, and grinned. "I have some boots to go with it, too." She said, and handed me some tall black boots with stiletto heels.
I got battle ready behind a curtain, and Fiona grinned at me when I came out.
"Perfect," she said, and added, "Now you’re ready." She handed me a gun, a knife I could put in a sheath at my thigh, and an extra clip. "You have to kill him with the knife for it to work." She said, and I nodded. She nodded at me, and I could tell that was her dismissal.
I walked to the door, opened it, and walked past Erik on my way out, vaguely seeing him frozen in shock at my appearance.
I walked down the hallway, suddenly knowing where I was going, and turned into the room, seeing a very mad Felix on the floor, handcuffed. He glared up at me, and I grinned darkly. I saw fear seep into his eyes, and he whispered, "No."
I nodded slowly and heard Erik walk up into the doorway behind me. My breathing was calm, heartbeat even, when I shot the chain of the handcuffs, and grabbed Felix by his shirt, dragging him towards the doorway. Erik had mind enough to move out of my way, and I drug him to Fiona’s room.
"No, no, no," he kept repeating to himself, and soon he was almost screaming it. When I got to the doorway, his arms shot out and grabbed at the walls, trying to keep me from bringing him to his death. Erik came up behind him and kicked him into the room. Felix grunted, and Erik kicked him again. Felix spit out some blood.
I grabbed the gun from its holster and shot him in the leg. He screamed. I vaguely felt the girls’ spirits cheering. I shot him again, in the other leg. He was screaming constantly.
I smiled. Walking slowly, I forced him to back away, afraid and in pain. He backed as far as the back of Fiona’s chair. I pulled the knife from its holster, and stabbed him in his heart with so much force, it went in to the hilt.
He groaned, but then went silent. I heard the spirits talking amongst themselves. They started moving around, making the air cold. I saw, in my mind’s eye, Felix’s spirit being pulled out of his body. The girls moved around him, torturing him.
I heard Fiona sigh in relief, and walked around the chair to look at her. She looked twenty years younger. She smiled, and I grinned. He would be tortured forever for what he’d done. I felt like I’d accomplished something, and a weight had been lifted off of my shoulders.
I turned and grinned at Erik. He looked surprised. I asked him what was wrong with my expression, and he grabbed my arm, pulling me out of the room, and to the room Felix had been in. He let me go and walked to where Felix had transported in there, and found the portal. He motioned for me to follow, and we both went to wherever the portal lead.
The portal felt cold and warm all at the same time. We had to keep walking, and when we came to the end, we walked out into the cafeteria. People were talking and eating, but looked up when they saw me and Erik appear out of nowhere. There was complete silence, but we kept walking, and when we exited the room, the room exploded with conversation.
We walked to Erik’s room, the room I’d shared with him for weeks. I sat in a chair, and sighed. Erik got into the fridge and pulled out two cokes and tossed one of them to me.
I nodded my thanks and he sat on the couch. I opened the can and took a sip. We didn’t talk. I looked at my coke, and felt unhappy towards it. It wasn’t strong enough. We both looked at each other, and like he read my mind, he got up and went to the fridge, pulling out what looked like Vodka and a bunch of other things. He mixed it all up in a blender, and gave me a glass.
I looked at him before gulping it down. He gulped his too, and we refilled.
I shuddered, and put the glass down. I stood up, swaying a little, and walked to the bed. I took off my boots, tossing them onto the floor, and took off the suit, too. I got into the bed with my bra and underwear on, and curled on my side. I heard Erik approach me from behind, clothes shuffling, and he got into the other side, in his boxers. We looked at each other for a second, then I fell asleep.
