My Mother's Battle

My mother just went through a battle with lung cancer. She was diagnosed this past May. She was told that it was not operable and that she was not a candidate for chemo. She did 30 radiation treatments. My mother decided she was getting some conflicting opinions from the local doctors. All of a sudden one decided she could have chemo, but another said it wouldn't buy her any more time, yet another was still against it all together. Finally my mom decided to go to an oncologist in a bigger city where the medical treatment was better for a second opinion.

We got to the oncologist, he looked at her chart and asked, "Why couldn't you have surgery?" Of course if we knew the answer to that we probably wouldn't have been there. He referred her to a surgeon that was supposedly the best.The surgeon said that it was in fact operable.

This past October my mother had a successful operation. She had her first follow up scan last month, and remains cancer free. Of course cancer is never cured. My mothers cancer could return at any time. My mother is not the only person in my family to go through cancer, just the one that I witnessed first hand.

Please help me and my family along with the millions of other families whose lives have been or will be affected by cancer. We are participating in an event with relay for life, and could use all the support we can get. Thank You
