My Man 3

His request....
‘Miss I said hop in!’ BJ repeated. He opened the door for her. ‘Hurry up before you all get soak.’

Cybil stared. She still couldn’t believe her eyes. BJ Reynolds was just in front of her, offering her a ride. Kyle secretly pinched her elbow. It was effective! Finally she woke up to where it seems to be a dream for her.

But before she can do anything, BJ got off his car, opened the backseat door for the twins and put the seat belt for them. He then faced Cybil. ‘You’re going to get sick with this kind of weather!’ he said to Cybil and opened the passenger’s door for her. He helped her in, put her seat belt and hurriedly walked to the other side.

Cybil was still in shock sitting on the passenger’s seat of BJ’s car. This is too good to be true, she thought as her gaze followed BJ. She’d appreciate BJ’s kindness but instinct told her not to put meaning on it. BJ was known as womanizer, playboy and heartbreaker. The guy could easily change girls as often as he changes his shirt! But who could blame him? His handsome, charming, intelligent, famous and the team captain of his school’s basketball team. With his achievements, he could attract girls as easy as shooting a free throw.

Cybil admit she was star struck seeing him. Well the guy does commercials, modeling stints, hosting and on top of that he is the basketball superstar everyone talked about. Her reactions towards him were normal. She should be careful when he’s around. She couldn’t afford to fall for him, not his type and definitely not to him. She snorted silently. That will never happen, ever, she said quietly. She’s through with love!

Out of the blue, Kent sneezed. ‘Hey... are you okay?’ She looked at her brother and frown. ‘You guys…’ She took her handkerchief and wiped the faces of her brothers silently. After she was finished, she gave her hankie to Kent. ‘Use this to cover your nose when you sneezed, okay? You’re spreading the virus.’

BJ was so stunned hearing her. He couldn’t help but chuckle. He was already in the driver's seat. ‘It’s okay…’ he said. ‘I’ll disinfect the car later.’ He kid.

‘Right…’ she said unconvinced. ‘Uhm… thank you so much Sir.’ She said formally. Cy saw BJ winced hearing her addressed him that way. ‘And…’ she looked down. How should I put this? ‘I-I’m sorry about-’

‘Here.’ BJ offered his handkerchief to Cybil and smiled sweetly at her. She looked at him skeptically; still her hands were on her lap. It was something BJ least expected. He expected Cybil to willingly accept his offer. No girls in their right state of mind will turn down his offers. Well, except for Clarisse though. But Clarisse is exempted to this stuff.

You’re playing hard to get, huh? He thought. His smile suddenly broadens and quietly wiped her soaked face. ‘Don’t worry about the incident earlier.’ He whispered seductively. ‘I’ve forgotten all about it.’ he lied. Of course he was thinking about it! He was thinking about it the moment he rolled down his car’s window and decided to offer her a ride. ‘Here…’ he handed her again his handkerchief.

Cybil awkwardly smiled. ‘No thanks I’m okay.’

BJ looked first at her before he nods in approval. His charm was useless on Cybil! Imagine that! He thought of something. ‘This is quite a rain.’ He said. ‘There’s this pizza pub I know that serves delicious food. I think we should drop there and-’

Cybil interrupted him. ‘I’m sorry sir but we can’t. I have to go to work. But still thank you.’ She said. Cybil and Rae were working as part time at a moving house near Rae’s house. ‘I guess you should drop us to the subway and-’

‘No. I’ll drop you home.’ He said frowning. This girl was impossible. He was inches away from losing his patience to the girl seated next to him. ‘I insist, miss.’ he said firmly.

Cy looked at BJ’s face. Wow, he does pretty determine, she thought. She paused for awhile and stared at BJ. To her surprise BJ also stared at her with pleading eyes. She admits he looked cute. She first sighed then said, ‘Fine then.’

Kyle cleared his throat to get there attention and then faced BJ. ‘Sorry for the ill-mannered sister of mine that had failed to introduce us.’ He said out of the blue and was looking naughtily at her sister. ‘This is my older brother Kent and I’m Kyle. As you can see we’re identical twins.’ He paused for awhile. ‘As of your offer, we gladly accept it. Don’t mind my impolite sister here.’

BJ smiled and looked at Cybil. He saw her rolled her eyes. ‘I’m BJ Reynolds.’

‘Oh…we know you. We’ve seen you in the TV a lot of times, like playing basketball or indorsing some stuff.’ Kent said.

‘Oh right…’ BJ started the engine and drive the Wilson’s to their house. On their way to the Wilson’s house, Cybil’s brother gaily chatted with BJ while Cy was quiet on her seat busy negotiating her schedule with Ms. Vienna. Cybil will still go on duty after her part time job. Vienna informed Cybil through text that she’ll be scrubbing in with Dr. Killian the whole month in her emergency and elective cases. Cy politely disagree with her. She heard a lot of stuff about Dr. Killian, a lot of bad stuffs. But in the end Vienna didn’t gave her any choice. She has to scrub in for Dr. Killian, and that’s it.

Not long enough BJ pulled over and stopped just in front of their house. Cy smiled at him. ‘Thank you so much, sir.’

BJ smiled back at her. ‘I’m used to repay things. I guess that’s how I’ am.’ He said. ‘You’re not going to get any free stuff nowadays without repaying it.’ he said meaningfully.

Cybil frowned. She was lost. She didn’t exactly know what he was talking about. ‘I’m sorry but, what do you mean?’

His smile broadens. ‘Good deeds should be repaid by good deeds.’ He said. ‘I saw what you’ve done earlier so…’ he trailed off, not knowing the right words to use.

Cybil smiled and shook her head. ‘It was not a big deal.’ She said matter-or-fact. She then looked at her brothers. ‘C’mon guys, you still have a lot of things to finish.’ She got off the car and opened the doors for her brothers. Her brothers rushed immediately to their house. Rain was still pouring so hard. ‘Thank you so much.’ She said again.

BJ chuckled and then said. ‘You can repay me by giving me an A+ to my training and an instant rescuer’s ID.’ He kid. He saw her winced and then said immediately. ‘Or any tips you can give to help me pass the training.’

She pushed her glasses. ‘Don’t miss any sessions and pay close attention to my demonstrations.’ She said, then turned her back to him and ran carelessly towards her house. Her pants were caught with mud but she kept on running.

Days and weeks passed and surprisingly Cybil got close to her trainees especially the two basketball players, BJ and Van. The training was okay. Cybil had a tough time translating some medical terms to laymen’s term. But she was glad her group was interested in learning BLS. As of BJ and Van she appreciated the friendship they offered her, but she noticed something about Van that really excites her.

Rae helped them but was assigned to handle the other group. She also made friends with Cybil’s group especially Van and BJ. The last four days of the training, Cybil was asked to head the Blood Donation Week. It was one of the activities RC’s schedule for this month. While Cy was out Rae was asked to replace her.

Cy appeared on the day of the trainees actual demonstration. Still in her ill fitted jeans, white t shirt with a large logo of RC printed on its back, hair was rumpled and tied into a tight pony tail with so many jet black strands falling into her face and her wire-rimmed glasses Cybil entered the Red Cross building. The place was quite, she didn’t even see one of her colleagues hang around the hallway. Immediately after she reports to their head the demonstration started.

She was amazed by the result. Everyone passed the bandaging demo and only few students failed the CPR. Most of the students who failed have a medical history of asthma and their ventilations didn’t actually reach the ideal. They were given only two chances and luckily for them on their last try they passed.

Cybil had a lot of fun watching them as well as giving them their certificates and IDs. After cleaning the area, BJ talked to her. ‘Miss while you’re out of town, we planned an outing as a celebration for today’s success and also a way for us to thank you.’ He said. ‘My family owned a beach resort a couple of miles south and I kind of reserved it just for the two groups. Ms. Rachel and Ms. Rae thought it was cool.’ He paused for a moment. ‘The girls thought beach party was great so it was decided we’ll stay there overnight: a three days and two nights trip will be fun.’

Cybil shook her head. ‘I’m sorry, but I can’t...’

‘But Cy, this will be the last time we’re going to see each other.’

She flinched. That was the first time Cybil heard him called her by her name. ‘You guys can visit us here. We’re not going anywhere.’ She said. ‘I’m sorry but I can’t go. Just have some fun without me…’ she walked towards the door.

That afternoon Cybil decided to stay late. She brought books from their school library. She opened it and after a few minutes she had lost the tract of time. It was her routine ever since. She worked, review for her exams and then work. Not until her tummy rumbles that she’d ever noticed the time. It was late in the evening! Her mother will probably worry sick again.

She hurriedly turned off the lights, closed the office and hurriedly walked towards the subway. On her way, she keep on discussing the diseases she’d read quietly on her mind. The road on the subway from the RC’s building was kind of disserted, less cars were passing the road and less pedestrian using it, for the reason that the road was poorly illuminated. It was the shortest road from the RC to the subway. Cybil was still far from the subway when a car stopped abruptly in front of her. Four tall men were inside and smiling evilly at her.

This is not good… she thought and slowly but quietly step back. The four men get off the car.

‘Hey miss…want to have some company?’ one of them said.

After hearing those words, Cybil didn’t think anymore. She instantly ran as fast as she could but the men were faster. One of them out distanced her immediately and gripped her arms that made her stop running. ‘I don’t think so…’ the guy said smiling.

Cybil smelled something from the guy’s mouth. The guy was under the influenced of alcohol! She panicked, pulled her arm free and instantly gave the guy a right straight hook then followed with two jabs and finished it with an uppercut. The guy didn’t expect her attack and lost his balance.

‘You bitch!’ said the other guy while looking at his friend lying unconscious on the ground. He tried to chock Cybil using his hand but she caught his hand right on time, twisted it and put it on his back. The guy yelled for mercy. The two guys were ready to attack her at the same time but were abruptly stopped.

‘What’s going on here?’ a voice from the darkest part of the street asked. ‘Why are you attacking my girlfriend?’ Somehow his voice was familiar but she forgot where she heard it. Cybil pushed the guy’s body to the ground and glared at the remaining two standing in front of her. The two men panicked and ran away immediately while the other two struggled to get up.

The guy who somehow helped her stepped into the light. Literally Cybil jaw dropped. It was BJ Reynolds smiling at her.

‘What are you doing on that road at this time?’ BJ demanded Cybil. They were on his car. Cybil was sitting on the passenger’s seat with her arms crossed in front of her. ‘If I didn’t happen to pass-’

‘I can handle myself.’ she said it proudly without looking at him.

BJ looked at her. ‘You’re small…’

She pushed her glasses forward. ‘I’m five four… and half. Besides my fist hit them so my height does matter.’

BJ sighed. ‘Normal girls didn’t hit guys with their fist.’

Cy flinched. ‘So I’m not normal then?!’ she said. ‘I’m not waiting for a knight on his white horse to rescue me because in these days, no one will.’

He stared at her for a moment and sighed. ‘Since I save you-’

‘You didn’t save me. I save myself.’ she interrupts.

‘Since I,’ he emphasized the last word. ‘Save you, you can repay me by going to the beach with us tomorrow.’ He paused then looked at her naughtily. ‘Since you owe your life to me-’

‘I didn’t owe you my life!’ she said immediately. She knew BJ had this ‘what I want is what I get’ thing on his system but she’ll not allow him to control her. ‘You’re impossible. I’m out of here!’ she tried to opened the door but it was tuck. ‘Hey-’ she looked at BJ who was smiling charmingly at her. ‘Open this door right now or else-’

‘Or else what?’ he challenged her. Cybil didn’t know exactly what to do if he’ll not open the door. BJ laughed at her facial reaction and then started the engine.

‘Hey! Where are you taking me?!’ Cybil yelled.

He smiled wickedly. ‘To a place where I’m pretty sure you’re not familiar with.’ He sighed. ‘I’ll drop you home if you promised me you’re going with us tomorrow…’

‘What’s with that ultimatum?’

‘I just want you to have some fun. Enjoy you’re life while you’re still young.’ He said. ‘You’re so serious with your life. You’ve given me the impression that you’re a control freak.’

‘A control freak?!’ she repeated furiously. ‘Okay fine, I’m going.’ She said tactlessly. It was late that she’d realized he was able to control her and made her agree to what he wants.

Cybil found herself staring at the sea. The moon was shining brightly and the stars were twinkling like a gemstone in the sky. The sea breeze was cold yet surprisingly it calmed her tense muscles. The salty smell of the air and the small waves rushing to the shore brought a lot of memories from her early puberty days.

Throughout her travel with BJ the day before, she was quiet and BJ was kept on pissing her off. She found it strange and annoying his sudden character change. It seems to Cy that the BJ she knew for the past weeks was different from the BJ know. She just put it aside and enjoyed the beach.

Van invited her to go scuba diving with him, jet skiing, snorkeling, parasailing and he even invited her to ride the banana boat. Cybil enjoyed Van’s company the first. When they arrived in their cottages Van challenged her for a volleyball match.

Her first day was great, well, thanks to Van. She even forgot about BJ. On their second day Van just bolted inside their cottage and invited them to go island hopping. Leaving without a choice they went along with him. But before Cybil could actually enjoy the beauty of the islands she felt a sudden chest pain and numbness at the same area. She hurriedly took her medicines and told Rae and Van she NEEDED to take a rest. Luckily for Cybil, Rae immediately agreed with her. She spent the whole afternoon resting.

‘Hey… what are you doing here alone?’ BJ asked.

Cybil pushed her glasses and looked up. ‘I want to be ALONE…’

BJ smiled at her and then seated next to her. He took off his jacket and he put it on to Cybil’s shoulders. ‘You need this more than I do.’ He said. Cybil didn’t say anything; she snuggled on his jacket and closed her eyes. His scent was cascading all other his jacket. ‘Are you okay now? I’ve heard you’re not feeling well this morning.’

She opened her eyes and looked ahead. ‘I’m okay.’ She said. ‘I just need some rest.’

He nods his head. ‘That’s nice.’ He said. He paused for a moment. ‘Actually I want to talk to you about some stuff, Cy.’ He said without looking at her. ‘I’ve been trying to find a perfect opportunity but these past days you’re with Van.’

‘What stuff you want to talk about?’ she asked suspiciously. ‘Look you didn’t save my life back there and I didn’t own my life to you. I didn’t asked you for help, I saved my life and-’

‘Can you be my girlfriend?’ he said cutting her sentence.
